Everytime I hear this song I remember all the way back in highschool, I didn´t have any internet on my home until 2009, I couldn´t listen to any music other than what was being played on the radio. After I finally got internet on my home I did nothing but listen to music, from the likes of Coldplay, Linkin Park, The Strokes, etc. One day a friend recommended me the first Arctic Monkeys album, so what I did was download the whole album on my Ipod 2, putting my headphones on and just listened as how this song filled me with such passion and energy, it felt like a rush of blood to the head, which such a rhytm that I couldn't get out of my head and how I fell in love with the band. To this day I still feel that everytime I listen to it and it has become my favorite Arctic Monkeys song since then.

A lot of people are missing the point of this video... It's an allegory. The drummer is Buddha (before he became Buddha). He is drumming under a street light (like Buddha meditated under a Bohdi tree for 49 days: in order to achieve enlightenment). The dude with the bat, who is basically God, can be seen at points in the video (1:10 and 1:32 he's in the balcony). He's monitoring the drummer and seeing if the drummer deserves enlightenment. There are the three dudes that approach the drummer; they're the three demons that try to scare Buddha with imaginary arrows and fire balls (the imaginary arrows are the chips, the fire balls come from the dude with the lighter). Once they notice that the drummer understands who they are, they disappear. The ending shows that the dude with the bat has gotten closer to the drummer, but isn't doing anything. Once the moon explodes (the moon being a symbol for a person's fake self, their ego, etc --- on account that the moon shines because it steals it's light from the sun... thereby making it a kind of fake light).... then, the dude with the bat gives Buddha his enlightenment.

I used to love this clip when I was younger, but I never really knew why. Today after it randomly played in my spotfy I came to youtube to rewatch this iconic video. Somehow the drummer is so relatable, I don't know what he been through and what is he looking for, but you can see he is looking for something within himself, just like everyone I guess. To me this video is about introspection, looking inwards, and that is something that can make other people unconfortable, maybe by seeing others doing what they couldn't do for themself. It is very possible I am looking too deeply into a music video that has clear nostalgic value to me, but after a few years struggling with depression, watching this was a very inspiring to really go back to looking at myself, and tryng to do better.

Favourite arctic monkeys tune, lyrics are amazing even for the high standard of Turners early songs. I wonder do people even understand what the chorus is talking about these days with all our smartphones 😂 Genius song
