The Centovalli train is one of my favourite train rides you can do with a Swiss Rail Pass. It's nice to see a combination of the old and new trains on the line. Thanks for posting. The last time I did this journey at Domodossola the carriages were signed FART, the Italian operator of the train, we thought it was very funny.

Perhaps few travelers know that in traffic from Switzerland to Italy (fare connection point: Camedo Transito) or from Switzerland to Switzerland via Italy, the actual 53 km that separate Locarno from Domodossola are considered 149 km, moreover taxed based on the prices of Swiss federal railways, also with regard to the route in Italian territory managed by the SSIF. In some cases it is much more convenient to purchase an SSIF ticket from Domodossola to Ribellasca, continue on foot to Camedo and there purchase a ticket to Locarno at the integrated Arcobaleno rate 🌈. If you get off at a hotel in the Canton of Ticino you get a free ticket for the Ticino railway network valid up to Camedo station.

For several years, parts of this line, at least from Ponte Brolla to Locarno had been unmounted and abandoned, which gave me quite some grief :) Paradise is quite similar to this area. Parts of my heart live around Verscio and a friend of mine has a rustico on 900m ... I hope we all will turn to a simpler life and this could be part of the blueprint. Most people need no car if you look at it closely and you have a train like this.

Beautiful ride. I rode this in 1965 in a car similar to what is displayed at 43:00. I believe at that time it ran along the street of Locarno. And I had to show my passport at the border.

Merci MR Laurent Fasnacht.

I can see by the red building up on the roadway and the little masonry building where the train would make a brief stop for customs and immigration inspection. No longer used. Now they are monuments. I guess, custom and immigration officer positions are no longer a viable career path.

I went on this line way back in 1984. I remember it as a cog railway line climbing up out of Domodossola. Perhaps my memory is incorrect. I also remember , this time correctly that the line went up the main street of Locarno and terminated at or near the large fountain.

Marvellous mood of this track through the autumn, molte grazie! P.S.: I'd like to appreciate the sounds of children in the background - german commentators seem to mistake them, ignoring some essential facts about terror-deutsch :))
@ilex4712 жыл бұрын
It's not German, it's Dutch (the language they speak in the Netherlands, also called Holland). People should learn not to take little children on a trip like this, they get bored easily and start to cry and yell, especially Dutch children, who are very unruly, because their parents let them do what they want.

A great tour thanks. I don't recognize the area. Can you tell me what major countries were nearby? Could see a lot of maintenance going on and it did seem some of the track might have been fairly new. Those last couple of stations in the inground taken o9ver by graffiti were they disused stations? I loved all the scenery and seeing into people from another country's lives. Thanks again. I am subscribed.
@nathanweber004 жыл бұрын
Domodossola is in Italy and Locarno in Switzerland. These last two underground stations are only served by the regional trains which run only in the swiss part. (Thats why the train in the video did not stop there) The graffitis are meant to be like that to decorate the stations. (Not vandalism)

You may "not like waiting", but if the train doesn't stop, passengers don't get on/off. And if passengers don't get on/off, then there's no point in running the train. And if the train doesn't run, then you don't get to make videos of it. Which then saves me clicking the "dislike" button, which I wouldn't have done if that dammed message hadn't kept popping up every time the train stops.
