I absolutely love Cubase but I have to say this. I really hope Beat Designer is improved in future versions of Cubase. We need per note parameter controls outside of just velocity. We need complete individualized flam for each instrument and note. We need complete individual swing per instrument. We need to be able to default the velocity value and click any portion of the steps to input notes at a consistent velocity. We also need Beat Designer and the rest of the mentioned features to exist inside of Groove Agent. Beat Designer is good but it could be great with further improvements.

I'm a long time Cubase user, but just been trying out Studio One... I wish Steinberg would implement features from the Studio One pattern designer into their midi plugins. It's so intuitive and flexible. I'd really like to be able to change the steps per lane to do polyrhythmic stuff in Beat Designer too.

I've browsed almost all of what KZbin has to offer - Hands down - this is the most essential Cubase production channel there is. Full stop. There is none better. We should be paying for this content (hey, I know there's a manual - but I learn through practice and observation, who wants to READ how to make AUDIO!?) Since I began making music 15+ years ago (and have been on many courses since, including Mastering Engineering) I have still always wanted to spend a day or more in a real studio and work on a project with a professional. I know there are many new resources that engineers have these days (like KZbin) that we never had before - But decades ago, in the good old days, pro-studios used to sometimes hired people that dreamed of being producers and engineers but had to prove themselves, be the dogsbody and learn by watching and looking over the shoulder of the lead engineer. Often they literally started as the coffee-boy or the unpaid assistant that had to record all the analogue settings at the end of the day! Personally, I think it would make a great to revive that idea in a video series - have an amateur come in and work on a project and to ask all the questions that a professional may not think to ask because they are no longer a beginner I'm being selfish, of course! It would be a dream come true to spend a day working with someone of your skill and edit it into a video. I would do anything to spend with you chatting about music production and working on something!

I tried reading the manual for beat designer, and it confused me, so I just continued to use the drum editor. I could put together beats with it, but it was not clear how to use them in a project. This video makes it much clearer and I can work with it now. Thanks, Dom.

what he says...im gonna try the beat designer again! thanks for this video Don! I wish Steiberg would re-write all their midi plugins, so its more intuitive to use, or open it for 3rd party designers like Logic. I really dont know any producers who use the midi plugins like the arp etc...they are all very confusing.

Great video, as usual, thanks. Just a friendly tip regarding "80's," though: It should be "80s" without the apostrophe, which indicates possessive, like "Dom's video." The 80s don't possess your drum machine. And if you want to be a little fancier, use '80s, as the apostrophe there indicates an abbreviation, in this case abbreviating 1980s to '80s. You've provided lots of great tips for me, so I'm hoping this tip will be of value to you. Cheers!

Is there anyway to change the step value to add new notes (but not effect the previously programmed note values)? Like if you wanted to play triplets over 1/8 notes? Or change the total number of steps for one sound while not impacting the others (so it would loop sooner or later)?

Hi Dom. I recently purchased your 80s modern drums which I think are fantastic. How do you insert the drums as an instrument track as shown in this video? I have them as a midi track feeding into Halion Sonic SE. Also, your drum mapping only shows 8 of the 13 sounds in the cubase drum editor and the toms on B1 and C2 are identical.

Dom has taught me something new BOOM! 🤟 Haha 😂 love it! So my question which you've spoke about before is to do with the Chord pads, instead of using them as chords is it possible to make melodies with it using less notes? I've tried it many times on the circle of 5ths and chose notes what sound like it would work when I'm running through, but once I press play it doesn't sound as good as It did when I was selecting the notes, it's mostly strings I have this issue with, is this something you've experienced before or is it me being silly? Also I love your beard and I have grown mine to look like yours!
