This is so full of useful MIDI tips that I have saved it especially so that I can keep going back to it. Plus, the technology behind this video is really good and professional-like - for example: the way there is a zoom-in on menus and other important information so that it is so easy to see it properly. Dom - I only discovered your videos a few days ago, but I'm working my way through them all. Thanks for making them. I'm new to CuBase - I'm not a total newbie as I write my own specialist MIDI software, and I'm used to other products like Band-in-a-Box, Sibelius, Neuratron etc - but I only acquired CuBase Elements 11 recently to hopefully replace my Yamaha AW16 recording studio with something with more capability, and your tutorials are *very* helpful indeed.

This was really informative. Thank you. Ive always been towards Alan Parsons instrumentals, Supertramp, JM Jarre, synths but then I also get inspiration from flamenco and AOR and even jazz and definitely blue notes. But the sound I like is the 80s sound. Relaxed groovy.

I'm newer to Cubase. It's just spectacular. I have only Reason and DP for comparison. Nonetheless, the midi features are wonderful, and I'm just starting. My favorite features you listed are the "show all used controllers" and the ability to keep midi notes in line and while i move and copy them - it's interesting how much time I spend manually moving midi notes.

These tips are going to make my workflow going so much faster. Especialy No. 10: Change velocity on the fly. Sometimes, my controller is playing tricks on me and hitting way louder than expected. It was a pain to correct them the old slow way. Thanks a lot, Dom!

The best tip for me was changing cord in versions, also moving notes and having to maintain the same position. Resetting quantize would be very helpful for me.

How come we’ve advanced so far in sampling technology, but my Phone and ipad voice recognition software is still mired in the dark ages? Should have recognized cord as chord and in versions as inversions. We need more musicians writing code for these devices.

Drawing chords is super useful because although I'm fine with the theory, writing a four part choir piece for example is just a headache, much quicker to throw in some chords, invert and move them around than to start from scratch.

1) shift + double-click on a note will select all MIDI notes of the same pitch to the end of midi clip; 2) 'quantize end' must be set-up in shortcut preferences for a quick use; My favorites are "Cloned midi clips". Also there is a way to make all notes to have the same length just with a help of two mouse clicks. The Key Editor really lacks of range selection tool like Ableton, for easier copy/paste of parts. Didn't know about 'reset quantize', cool!

I have two questions, sorry for posting here, but cant find the answers. 1. how can i select several notes in the key editor and have them play? for example a certain chord? 2. how can i drop a chord in the chord track by selecting notes from two different key editors from two different tracks?

Cubase.... A seemingly bottomless pit of functions. Apart from the programmer, does anyone really know all of the program, it must take a lifetime to discover all of its secrets 😎🎧🎤🎸
