One more tip: SHIFT + DOUBLE CLICK on a note event (not piano roll) and you will select all notes of same pitch to the right from the clicked note event. Just like in the Arrange window you would do to parts, audio events, etc.

This is so full of useful MIDI tips that I have saved it especially so that I can keep going back to it. Plus, the technology behind this video is really good and professional-like - for example: the way there is a zoom-in on menus and other important information so that it is so easy to see it properly. Dom - I only discovered your videos a few days ago, but I'm working my way through them all. Thanks for making them. Thank you Dom. I always like this kind of content and, though I already knew most of these tips, there is always something new to be learned. The expansion/compression of velocities and controller data trick is new for me. I appreciate your delivery, video production values, enthusiasm, etc. There is one more tip that I use frequently. It is possible to colourize the notes by PART and then open up two or more parts at the same time in the key editor. That is a very useful function when you want to edit parts that need to interact rhythmically (e.g. click and bass) or if you have chords formed by independent instruments (like string orchestra, choir, synth quartet, etc).

I'm newer to Cubase. It's just spectacular. I have only Reason and DP for comparison. Nonetheless, the midi features are wonderful, and I'm just starting. My favorite features you listed are the "show all used controllers" and the ability to keep midi notes in line and while i move and copy them - it's interesting how much time I spend manually moving midi notes.

Fantastic tips! I'm using a few of these already but the one that I found in this video (that I've not discovered yet) is the one for creating curves in the CC editor by removing all but the one point where you wish to create the smooth curve. This will be hugely useful for the string parts that I'm constantly editing CC data for, to get the expression to sound right.

Thanks for these Dom! Is there a way you can go to the bottom of the editor where it says velocity, and select only certain velocities across the entire piece of music (for example the highest/loudest velocities for a piano), and just bring them down together, but by just dragging a mouse across the notes quickly, without selecting them one by one. It seems in Cubase you can only do this by editing the velocity one note at a time. I'm coming from logic where, for example, you would just select the loudest notes by dragging horizontally across the tops of the loudest notes in the velocity section of the editor, and just drag them down, without selecting any other notes and without having to select them one by one at the top of the editor. In cubase, trying to do this with the object selection tool, it simply brings all notes to the value that you drag across. I just want to skim the top of the notes to select the loudest ones, and just drag those loudest ones down. Thank you so much for this channel and this video, hopefully this question make sense? They have to be a way to do this I just don't know how.

1) shift + double-click on a note will select all MIDI notes of the same pitch to the end of midi clip; 2) 'quantize end' must be set-up in shortcut preferences for a quick use; My favorites are "Cloned midi clips". Also there is a way to make all notes to have the same length just with a help of two mouse clicks. The Key Editor really lacks of range selection tool like Ableton, for easier copy/paste of parts. Didn't know about 'reset quantize', cool!

Drawing chords is super useful because although I'm fine with the theory, writing a four part choir piece for example is just a headache, much quicker to throw in some chords, invert and move them around than to start from scratch.
