On top of what you said, another benefit of directly integrating with Kontakt is that DAW tracks now has lesser system resources footprints. When Kontakt was wrapped within KK, a single track used to take about 2% to 3% of RAM. With projects that use more than 40 tracks, it wasn't practical and the system was running out of RAM fast. With K7 integration now, I still can use the NKS pre-mapped parameters with lesser RAM consumption.

The Mk3 has a LOT of features I'd really like to take advantage of, so...yeh. Time to drop the hammer. I'd love some faders on it (like the Arturia 88 has), but I've got some 3rd party outboard pads and faders already in place in the studio, so those will do for now (and help keep the price down on the NI 88). I also prefer the direct integration with Komplete/Kontakt.

I bought my S61 MK3 late last year and it had a lot of teething troubles integrating with Studio One and KK. However, NI has since fixed these issues. I bought the keyboard in the anticipation of improvements and enhancements, especially with the flexibility of the onboard computer. The unit provides lots of player control - four pedals, touch strip, knobs, aftertouch etc. I think these are the most important factors. The keybed itself is ok, a bit 'squidgy' but handles well. Just don't compare it to a proper weighted piano / MIDI controller (maybe the S88 is different). The display is lovely, but I appreciate to some it might just be a gimmick. Good for selecting NI-integrated instruments, but ultimately you head back to the screen and mouse for finer control. Overall though, I think this keyboard is a good controller, and a sound investment in future enhancements - and NI have proved this with their recent MIDI integration features. Yes, it's expensive, but if you get on with it, then that might be a worthy purchase that will give years of service. Hope this helps anyone considering a purchase!

Display angle is a GREAT feature. Ultra big bucks DAW controllers were made for years and years by AVID with absolutely no concern for this issue whatsoever. I committed to the Control|24 simply because of the superior ergonomic design. AVID intentionally broke its compatibility in order to clear out the warehouse of their C24 with zero ergonomic design. This tonedeafness resulted in years of resentment among the Control model fans and eventually birthed a whole new company just to make them work again. Imagine building $10,000+ control surfaces without a clue to what their users want and need. I grew up with large-format analog desks which had the very same issues. On the worst of them, I’d stand to make buss assignments, adjust mic pre!! of all things, then sit and depend on muscle memory to adjust either EQ or Aux sends - depending on which the designer didn’t care for. To blithely repeat that mistake in the 21st century was the apogee of thoughtless.

However I want is a great MIDI controller first and foremost, with all the things I need such as quality sliders, plus Maschine integration, this new version fails to deliver. Would give up the premium feel immediately for these other things as whilst everyone likes better quality, the existing ones were very reasononable anyway unless a pro player. Plus another major issue is that we all know that down the line in the future they will shut off support anyway. Then unless you are happy to offload that expensive piece of kit, you're down to some hard choices with regards using older versions of software. So I'm much happier staying in the out and out MIDI controller zone and ignore some of these new ideas. It's a shame as I love their boards but it seems the game is to take you on a new money making journey with these latest products rather than give me what I really want.

Why, not make 2 Versions one without and one with motorized faders… that could solve the “money” problem 😂
@DomSigalas3 ай бұрын
Because this would require double the resources at the factory and additional RND. It’s the number 1 reason why many companies don’t produce “dream” products. For example, many people scream they want the CS80: the amount of people that would be able to buy this synth if Yamaha actually produced it would be so few that the costs of putting it in production line would be catastrophic and a total economic loss. And it’s the same for many products. People say that they would definitely buy it but when they see the price they never do :)

NI should just create blue tooth faders that can sit on all that empty space .charge these nerds 199. And be done.

I am glad NI sent you a new toy! 👌 But no, it's not the best controller.... In fact , after i bough Maschine MK3 few years ago, I promise myself to not give more money to Native Instruments. I use Cubase and the MK3 is completely useless. They have never add support for the MK3 to control Kontakt or Komplete Kontrol, so the only way is to use their stupid Daw or use their Daw inside Cubase as VST. A nightmare!! Oh, and good luck on trying to sell MK3, I have mine on Reverb for about an year and nobody buys it.

Hey Pedro! So what’s your favourite controller then for composing? Maschine wasn’t promising to have any deep integration with Cubase, I have it too. I have sold all my old Maschines and a MK49 MKII, but honestly, if the new S88 didn’t come out I wouldn’t want to sell my MKII anyway. I haven’t found anything that matches it.

How many of the modern controllers or synths are designed with users needs and requested needs or are just companies forcing their own agendas and pushing more spending.

No 100mm Faders! Is this a joke? What does this keyboard have to do with vst orchestral samples and programs?
@DomSigalas3 ай бұрын
I’d love to see faders too. But it seems people like Junkie XL still like these keyboards even without the faders :)

No its not, cause until DAW software designers really up their game - basically go back to the drawing board in terms of implantation of music techniques and expression like staccato, legato, accents, dynamics, crescendos etc and making all these plugins work much better with DAW software then its all still a pain in the arse for the composer

NI has gone the Apple way - trying to give less and charge more. Better get Akai anyday better - with touchscreen.

And another one of those paid influencer advertisement videos about the KK MK3. Not a single word about negatives, like missing Maschine support, worse DAW control compared to MK2, less buttons than MK2 and all those firmware upgrade issues people had. The overall consensus about this product on the internet is mainly negative. But that doesn't stop influencers making ads for it.

The software updates for komplete kontrol discretely forced onto everyone via native access for this new hardware have been a disaster so far. Going from 32bit to 64 bit causing huge amounts of latency (forcing u to up the sample rate to over 512 from a previously happy 128) whilst making amendments for this hardware. Not to mention Maschine integration was binned off. Let’s just hope the new positives out way the old model like better keybed quality the keys get sticky sometimes on the old model (friday units probably) similar bed to arturia keylab 88, these new keys are poly after touch. Kontakt 7 has debug logging turned on by default smashing your disks to pieces. They need to provide customer the option to turn that off.😂
