3:50 you can find the ash of war in Deeproot Depths too by killing a scarab near the Erdtree Avatar. This allows you to slap Golden Land on any Colossal Weapon, Great Hammer, and/or Great Axe of your choice.

My favourite? A greatsword with double slash (it's so much fun, try it) and buffing it with lightning. Preferably with a shield in the offhand. Makes you tanky and still very swift with aggressive combo moves. It's fast, good damage and very low FP.

Since Dragonscale Blade ranked fairly high on your list, I’ll give a shout to my favorite weapon in the game, the Dragon Halberd. It’s got the same lightning/frost buff as the sword, but with the pokey-poke move set of a spear, and the ash of war hits like a truck if you can hit twice with it, which usually proves frostbite on its own. Plus it’s just the best looking weapon in the game, in my opinion.

I enjoy using the Carian knight's sword because it comes with carian grandeur and has a Heavy attack that blocks automatically. Also, claymans spear with a quality affinity+Magic grease+ice spear is reeeeally good.

It's fun to test every weapon as you get them. Sometimes you'll get a spear that has a sword like moveset, an burst fire crossbow, etc A lot of surprising differences

Great video. If you use the Blasphemous Blade and the Sacred Relic sword you basically become a monster that deals incredible damage with amazing health regen. It essentially breaks the game.

Bllodboon ritual (Moghwyn sacred spear) is the only way I can reliably beat Melania. Mimic and I catch her in two that's %75 of her health bar gone, and she gets stun locked for a lot of it. Few other good ones, keep in mind I like doing poise damage, stun locking and knocking foe's down. Lions claw for greatswords- you get hyper armor through it, it deals a lot of poise damage and knocks down most enemies, even good for stance breaking bosses. Giants hunt, if you get the timing down the enemy AI can't deal with it, so any enemy that can be flung into the air you can do this over and over to, especially good against NPC invaders and black knife assassins and for hitting enemies that keep their hittable spots up in air (like Astel). Good old Flame of The Redmanes, an AOE that deals a TON of poise damage and it comes out fast. Sword dance, just mentioning it because it carried me through my first playthrough, it's just a double spinning slash and a slam down but it deals a lot of poise damage and it catches the AI off guard a lot.

The only thing Ive seen shoot farther than the bolt of gransax (aside from bows) is the madness laser beam incantation. So I use that for loong snipe hits and the bolt for mid range kills (my whole build is about maxing out the bolt) then l use dragon lightning strike for big enemies or groups. Basically a dragon knight, but I love that spear so much. It got me away from using the winged scythe for most of the game haha. Thanks for the videos Dom, been following since I started playing a few months ago and your just my favorite creator to come too when I'm trying to figure out things I miss in an area. Can't wait to see what else you do from here.

I loved the Ruins Greatsword for knocking foes off there feet and for aoe. But my new go to weapon for single target foes is the Bolt of Gransax.

It's funny to me that they called the "fully grown fallingstar beast" fully grown since it's clearly a baby of whatever Astel is.

My thought was always focused on the "beast" part - like, maybe the Fallingstar Beasts are essentially animals from space, and whatever the hell Astel is, is the void's equivalent to a human. So the Fallingstar Beasts are sort of huge bull/boar-like animals used for war. Then again with all the insect/butterfly theming to the gravity entities, maybe the full-grown beast IS full-grown... not counting a possible eventual metamorphosis into something more like Astel. No idea in the end but all the possibilities are pretty interesting IMO

@@MalkuthSephira Yeah if you look at the eye and the mandibles it leads me to believe that the Fallingstar Beast is the larval stage of whatever Astel is. The Fully Grown Fallingstar Beast would be the fully grown larvae before entering the pupal stage, The Malformed Stars.

The weird mandibles being consistent through all this and then the malformed stars and Astel having more cleanly defined, obvious terrifying semi-human skulls supports that idea too I think. This is a good video. I suggest you follow it up with a video on the best "loose" ashes of war, like Seppuku, Horah Loux's Earthshaker, Waves of Darkness, Spectral Lance etc. One of my favorite passtimes in Elden Ring is building my own magic weapons.

@@rylanvillard I just played through on a new Faith character powerstancing the Inquisitor's Girandole and Flame Art Cross-Naginata with Black Flame Tornado. That was ridiculous. I only had 9 Arcane, but at times it felt almost as strong as a bleed build in addition to having absurdly strong casting like Ancient Dragon's Lightning Strike. Very strong against Malenia in particular. She is practically immune to holy damage, but she gets hurt by fire/ flame, pierce, and bleed, all of which I was doing.

Magma blade and halo scythe were two of my favourites, magma blades leaving a pool of magma that can stun enemies and the halo scythe with its destructo discs which deal holy damage and can make the deathrite birds a piece of cake.

There isn't actually hundreds of ashes of war in the game but I love the enthusiasm (I think there's like 94ish, so definitely still a lot)! Great list, and I can't wait to hop back in and use some in the first DLC, whenever that is.

Death's Poker is how I beat Placidusax on my Dex/Faith character and I didn't even use the second strike on it because I didn't realize it had one. It dealt enough damage per ash of war strike as is to overcome my reaction speed and memory issues. xD

I beat the game with the Lordsworn Greatsword and storm blade ash of war. Takes longer than most ashes to throw, but it's got good range and damage without going 100% cheese. Also works really well in melee builds, as it gives you a really good option for enemies that want to keep distance.

You can put Golden Land on normal weapons, and it is quite good on Great Stars. Not only is Great Stars one of the best of its weapon type, each of the little holy projectiles that hits returns a bit of HP. It's also practically the Holy damage version of Flame of the Redmanes given how frequently it stuns. I was stunning the freaking Fire Giant with Golden Land. I think it's one of the best Holy/ Sacred ash of wars for standard weapons in the game.

I'll give you my sleeper pick: Zamor Curved Sword's Zamor Ice Storm. And AoE that proc's Frostbite 3 times in quick succession. My build in NG+ uses Bolt of Gransax as main and the Zamor Curved Sword on switch. It's an Intelligence and Dexterity build, and with a Staff of Loss shooting the Night Comet sorcery in my offhand, there's synergy all around. Dex buffs Lightning and speeds up spellcasting. Intelligence buffs frostbite. Single target damage with range, AoE for mobs, Elemental damage, status build up; it's got it all.

Oh my ... these are amazing, can't wait to get some of them. Here's my question, I'm playing Warrior Mage (the easy mode as some would call it) cuz I simply like to wield swords and cast spells and other shit at the same time. I'm currently around lvl 50 and just got myself the Lazuli Glintstone Sword which is nothing special but right now not bad. I put most of my points into MIND, INT, FAITH and ARCANE to be able to use all the crazy spells... OK however, what weapon and ash should I look for next, I did some of the optional bosses but havent found something that looks amazing. I have some Ashes (to put on a weapon) but never done it so far...?

I personally find some of the ranged ashes of war more fun like thunderbolt and ice spear more fun so I'm bias. But for earlyish game try storm blade, beasts roar, bloody slash or even something as simple as quickstep. Other ones that are fun but aren't early game, black flame tornado, radahns rain(which is for bows), braggarts roar, prelates charge, and horah loux earthshaker.

Golden Land is kind of the Holy version of Redmanes. It also staggers like crazy like Redmanes. I staggered the Fire Giant with it multiple times.

i would add the queens black flame from the godslayer's greatsword because its insane if you can hit both swings. i would also add dynasts finesse from the bloody helice because its a really good dodge. wave of gold does holy damage as well which makes it very overrated since so many enemies resist holy damage

I don’t mind delays as much as other people do it seems… I notice a lot of people calling things useless or “ruined” because of a slight delay like the Wing of Astel, but if you just learn the timing it’s fine. I use Carian piercer all the time, and if I gain distance, pause, start charging the spell by the time they get close I impale them and knock them down. I can cheese so many difficult enemies like that… lol it’s almost sad. Because a fully charged Piercer will go through any shield and takes the same amount of time as an enemy needs to stand up. So essentially I knock them on their ass, and keep hitting them just as they stand up! Hahah it’s hilarious and makes these terrifying enemies look like slapstick idiots!

I've actually only used a few ashes of war. I tried hoarfrost stomp for awhile obviously lol, like everyone else. It was pretty OP, especially early on. Then tried seppuku for a bit... until ultimately switching for good to corpse piler. Very happy with that skill!

Wow, I'm shocked Taker's Flame didn't quite make the top 5. Seems unbelievably strong, has crazy range, and heals constantly. I'm glad it isn't any faster than it is because it would have been hit hard by the nerf hammer, maybe more than once by now, if it was as good in PvP as it is in PvE. Actually, I can't deny somehow Moonveil and Rivers are still completely busted, so it's possible they'd still let Takers run wild if it was top tier in PvP, but on the other hand it's a Faith scaling weapon and I'm just accustomed to FROM doing awful things to ruin Faith gear. I stopped playing Dark Souls 2 because I built my character around the Defender Greatsword putting all my materials and stats into it then they nerfed it into the ground to the point that if you used its ability a few times it broke.

Don't sleep on just the standard, non-special/legendary weapon AoWs! For melee focused builds skills like Double Slash, Sword Dance or Wild Strikes can just melt some bosses.

Flame of the Redmanes is stupidly OP, just started using it last night and it trivialises the game. 2 or 3 of these will stagger any boss, ANY boss. "No hit run" peeps use it sometimes.

Interesting ... I found that my character was getting knocked out of the weapon art too easily as I got towards late game so I changed out of it ... but he's having trouble with Elden Beast so I'll give it a go.
