When I play blues, like this, I am NEVER thinking about modes, or Pentatonics or anything like that,, I simply look for expression of notes,, and which ones to play and when, and then.. how to play them,, just like how do you speak, everybody speaks different,, just find YOUR voice and YOUR words ….
Pentatonic , modular runs, relative scales and arpeggios, etc .. ?
BUT…
Clapton, Hendrix, BB King , Alvin Lee, Peter Green, Stevie Ray, etc etc.…,
…. never… thought about, talked about, or learned about music math,, they simply learned CHORDS … then NOTES &/or SOUNDS that fit what they were trying to convey,, in some cases it matches some scale notes, but never did they think in terms of relative minor etc. etc.
people have FOR YEARS tried to identify it as certain “modular” “scalular” type playing, but they’re playing had nothing to do with any of that stuff,, a young player can definitely move pretty quickly just using “scales”,, but at some point has to learn how to express a feeling. ,, and that’s the BLUES….
…. complete expression, emotion, CHORDS & TARGET notes or positions…. Is the bottom line,, blues starts with 100% emotion,, or “feel”
Teachers are going to hate me …
