I'm so excited to share this with everyone! THis is an epic video. Thanks to Ed and his son James Abroms who recorded it for us.
It's four years old but better late then never!!
Don Bluth with Charles Zembillas!!!
wwww.AnimationNation.com presents AN Night!
We had had a successful run of AN Night where we evolved the monthly meetings into an event where a featured creative figure would be our guest. They would put together a fun and insightful presentation of their works and specialties. This was something unique in our community. We have conventions but there was nothing like this on a monthly basis. Even the Union doesn't feature artists in such a way.
All of our guests rocked. But having Don Bluth was very...appropriate. You'll get why when you watch this!
Directed and Edited by Snakebite Cortez
Filmed by Ed and James Abroms
Music By Adrian Foster ( AnimationNation.com Webmaster)
Lighting by Kevin McMahon
Special thanks to Dave Monahan from the Don Bluth camp for helping me get Don out here for this special time!
www.animationnation.com Is a great forum to discuss the ins and outs of the animation community. Please join us in the on going conversation,

"I didnt make a lotta money...(but), the reward for this is NOT the money. Its the light that comes from the eyes of the little child watching the movie" This is a great human being

Also, despite Don having an troublesome experience directing Titan AE, which was not a passion project for him but someone's leftovers, I do love the movie very much. I guess it does not matter if the director is not 100% into it; there are other elements, and other people involved, that can make the final project click with someone. And that someone was me, and it clicked with me. Don, you may not have liked Titan AE very much, but I like it a lot. It's weird like that. Thank you, and thank Gary, and all the other people involved, for struggling with it, for I liked it.

My friends and I were at this event 10 years ago! I can even see me and my stupid looking hair in the crowd at a few points, haha. I can't believe I stumbled onto a video of this presentation. Don Bluth said so many interesting things that night, and I always wished I had a recording of everything he had shared with us. Thank you so much for posting this!

Stoked you came across this too! Truly a magical night. I'm glad I was smart enough to produce a video to record the event. Thankful for those who volunteered

We're always reconnecting with our true "American tail" and "Rock-a-doodling" animator/director. Stay safe everyone!

It's so interesting to see Don Bluth mention Richard Williams and The Thief and the Cobbler, because his studio did make animate the Princess song for the butchered musical version of the film

I really liked the part about the deaths and hardships he discussed. It may be morbid but it really is something that should be prepared for and it's really something I didn't think of, yet just by how many people you come into contact with on the team, statistically speaking, it's not that rare. Uncommon perhaps, but not rare.

I don't exactly see Don Bluth as an animation genius, but if I had to pick one animator I'd like to have lunch and talk toons with, it would be him. Most actual animation geniuses, like Miyazaki for instance, I'd rather see from a distance than talk to.

Mr. Bluth needs to make another big, well produced hand drawn animated movie to blow Frozen out of the water and put the fear back into Disney. Someone has to raise the bar high enough to make animated movies interesting again. I afraid my children will grow up watching movies so subpar they will glorified Mikey's Clubhouse. *shudder*

+wheelzwheela It's about time Don Bluth made a comeback in the animation industry, because although he had a fair share of misfires in his animation career his better films are always what people will remember him for.

Nobody who wants to stay creative...can ever, in my eyes, grow up...Growing up, it's the beginning of the surrender to dull and boring. Growing old is something that's beyond our control, but growing up, that's the end for everyone.

I respect Don as a character designer, director, visionary, and storyteller. But the man knows very little about music.
