Absolutely great documentary! I heard this in one other documentary that “For those of us who didn’t see Bradman play, we’re lucky to have watched Tendulkar play.” I think that sums it up for our generation. We’re extremely lucky to have witnessed someone closest to Sir Don. Would have been a privilege to have watched Sir Don play! 😊

Future generations need to be made aware of legendary cricketers, appreciate their style, how they trained, and how they dedicated themselves. Don Bradman was a cricket hero, as was Len Hutton, who was mentioned as well. It was a treat to watch the video.

This thing about Bradman having fallen short by 4 runs to have a career batting average of 100 runs per completed innings overlooks the fact that almost throughout his career he kept averaging well over 100. His average stood at 105 before his last Test series against England and it stood at 101 before his final innings which is why he needed only 4 runs to finish with a fallen average of 100 which, alas, was never to be and which has led to this misperception about he having failed to reach that pinnacle of glory in the final analysis. A baseless understanding of the great man's lifetime batting achievement, a testament to popular unreasearched shallow estimate of things.

Bradman was once asked if he ever seen any batsmen who were as good as he or better. DGB: Yes. Several. Other: Then why haven't they averaged as high you. DGB: (thinks hard) They just kept getting out. Another time, when DGB was about 70, he went into the ets and faced two medium pacers for half an hour without once being beaten. Jeff Thompson watched this from the pavillion, then walked into the committee room where a Test team selection meeting was in progress, and asked, "Why isn't that bastard playing for us?"

Sometime in the 80's Sir Donald was asked by an Australian player how much he thought he would average if he played in the current test era.. Bradman thought about it for a second and said " oh maybe about 60.." " Is that all ?!" they asked in amazement... " Well I am 77 now " the Don said with a wink 😅

He is, but in terms of what that was about at the time I side with Chappell. They needed to be progressive in regards to player remuneration and they weren't. Bradman had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the current era as it was. I think Chappell is an odd type holding a grudge over something like that for as long as he has despite coming out on top though. Much worse things in life can happen e.g. people being the victim of violent crime, terminal illnesses etc - to me it's always indicative of how professional sports people don't live in the real world.

I respect old legends..but since he was Australian...These Aussies would credit him..my take is..If he did face the West Indian quicks of the 60..79..8os I think he would not have averaged..If u compare the Aussie and Windies of the 60 and 70s his average will be 1/2 of it...or less..Even Bradman will acknowledge that he did not real hostile quicks or Spinners of great quality .so as much I may add that Bradman was a quality batsmen that he was made out to be...I think many ..many cricketers from Australia or India or Pakistan or West Indies were much better technically batsmen...So my observation on Bradman is reserved as when cricket was in its infant stages...

You've forgotten Herbert Sutcliffe, George Headley (known as the Black Bradman) and Graeme Pollock. All three averaged over 60 but less than 61!

Nah mate, Sir Bradman. If I was the captain of a team and had the choice of the greatest all rounder or a batsman who is going to score a century on average in each innings in tests although it's a tough decision I'd have to go with the batsman - Bradman was almost like have a 12th player/batsman. Sobers is awesome though. I remember watching him on TV in the Australia vs The Rest of the World early 70's. What a man.

Wow, so that means the likes of Jack Hobbs would have an average of 7 today when you apply your reduction. Seems feasible lol. The fact of the matter is he still sits way out in front of everyone, including your heroes Kholi and Tendulkar. No one is ever going to catch him. That test average will be there for the rest of your life to taunt you and others like you. When you, me and everyone else around now is dead and long forgotten, Bradman will still be there on top. With no one ever getting close. All the subjective arguments under the sun won't change that.

Really batting at 5 making 70s always left stranded from si calked better batsmens making 5 0r 6 i was maybe 6th or 7th best batsmen at club but won batting ave.4 years straight Aturf why is that ? Number or better batsmen ??​@@andrewmaroc113
