@@DigitalNomadInvestor One reason why Buffalo was granted an NHL team in 1970 was that between 1952 and 1970, "Hockey Night In Canada", broadcast from the CBC-TV station in nearby Toronto, often drew more Buffalo viewers than two of the city's three network TV stations put together, and sometimes, almost as many viewers as all three Buffalo network affiliates combined. And prior to that, the NHL hockey broadcasts on CBC Radio out of Toronto often drew more Buffalo listeners than any local station. Prior to the Buffalo Sabres coming into existence, Buffalo was considered Toronto Maple Leafs "country", and there are still some Leafs fans in the Buffalo area even today.
@canjrs5 жыл бұрын
Nice story I like that :) But Leafs Buffalo’ers ? Yuck no go for your Sabres ! Lol 😋
@marvinuhilarious4 жыл бұрын
@@altfactor Yup, basically the same thing here in Seattle but not to the extent of Buffalo. We have access to CBC here on every cable provider and almost all hockey fans here watch Hockey Night In Canada regularly every week, most of the members of our (currently, it probably won't be the case very soon due to this new team) relatively small hockey community are diehard Canuck fans. This current hockey culture we have might die off very soon though due to this new team, unlike the Leafs in Buffalo. The Canucks and the game of hockey in general hasn't really taken off here until this new team showed up.

This includes Detroit, which is literally across the river from Windsor, Ontario. Throughout the 1990's and most of the 2000's I would watch Bob Cole and Harry Neale do usually Montrael or Toronto home games. It did not get any better then when those two teams played each other in the early game. Also (although I am biased) it was Just See when the Red Wings were on. When I worked late Saturday Nights, I usually would catch the Edmonton, Calgary, or Vancouver games with Chris Cuthbert and Greg Millen. Good times!

After controversial comments about Remembrance Day on the November 9th, 2019 edition of "Coach's Corner", Don Cherry was axed from "Hockey Night In Canada".
