Planted 2 acres in the summer and they have been absolutely destroyed with browse pressure! Gonna have to plant more next year I learned a valuable lesson to say the least

I have a 4 row planter, I fill outside boxes with corn and middle two with soybeans. So when you plant it’s two rows corn two rows soybeans. Then i broadcast rye between rows when corn gets waist high. When the farm crops come off the deer move in. Also plant edges into clover. Been the recipe here in west central Minnesota

I would suggest 2 rows in soybeans side by side and then 2 rows in corn side by side; this will give you 4 rows of each crop in a strip instead of 2. Just an idea to consider

Planter is 30” rows so it works but 4 and 4 would work also. The bigger bucks seam to like the narrow rows between corn

I hunt in Florida and Don Higgins is my favorite hunter. The reason hes my favorite has nothing to do with him being a great, successful, hunter which he is, it's because hes an open Christian and that's far more important to me.

First year I planted real world gen 2 beans. I let the beans grow up about 3 or 4 weeks then planted corn into the beans. Where the corn beans mix is the beans and corn are both doing great. I plan on doing 12 acres of the same thing next year.

I have noticed on my farm that after the beans are harvested in the 180 acre field, where ever we leave piles of hulls, the deer storm to these piles when the snows come and dig them up. And if there is one plant in that 180 field with a bean left on it. It is gone within a few days after the snows hit. Somehow they have a nose that finds everyone of them.

Some people here in the south are broadcasting brassica seed over their drying soybean plots in the fall. When we have enough rain it really works great for extra food in the beans throughout the fall and winter.

Growing northern beans close to the house, and down by the pond they climb all over the reeds and the deer leave them til the ice is hard. Climbing over wild raspberries, is good for both, if you want more berries. climbing beans, try a four pound bag from the store.

I agree but you want a little more verity with your food plot. The deer are like humans they all have diffent tastbuds so other options are radishes turnips and carrots

Well in Wisconsin here the deer eat the beans until they Brown and then don't come back until Winter so you'll legitimately do not have them on your property the entire hunting season #Facts

So Don, I own and hunt 60 acres in N Texas an hour south of Wichita Falls, TX. I've not had a successful food plot in the past three years due to a lack of critical rainfall and hogs. Would I best be served by reverting to a supplemental feeding program? I'm on the cusp of implementing this now to enhance my deer herd numbers and health.

I can't even buy soybeans for a plot. Monsanto owns the world. Gotta sign your life away it seems to get any at all. Corn too. They'll let us buy wheat but the deer don't seem to care for it anymore. Sometimes you might find a bag of food plot mix that has a little bit of beans in it. And you're right. They mow it down to nothing. Especially when you only own 25 acres and your plot takes the same same space as the barn. lol. Good info.

Agree soybeans get eaten soon as they come up all the way n winter buried n 2ft of snow.by they way 4:27 portion shows deer with main growing an old trait that surfaces now and then n deer cool.

Hey Don love your videos. Is there anything of value that can be planted in the woods with limited space and somewhat limited partial sunlight It’s enough sunlight to make the weeds and briars grow
@royguidry1311
@royguidry1311 2 жыл бұрын
Get some beggars lice briars growing in there. The deer hammer them and they have almost the same nutrients as soybeans. I had a valley full of them and the deer would come off 3 mountains to feed in them. Pro Tip. Wear something slick like a rain suit to walk through them or you will have 63 million stuck to your clothes. Shot a big 12 pt 150” buck in them the first year I had the land.

@@robertrichardson6227 doubt you could buy seeds because it’s a thistle. If you can find some in a hedgerow I would pull them and plant them. They seed hard and before you know it you have bushes everywhere. The deer on my property hammered them and also bedded in them

Why would you worry about Spring food that's when the deer's buffet line turns into a 10 out of 10 for food. I've created Doe factories with Spring food plots.
