I was at a bar in Chicago talking to the bartender about Hunter when this gorgeous woman next to me freaked out and demanded we stop mentioning HST. She was almost having a breakdown. Turns out she had been engaged to a famous golfer and was supposed to be married by Hunter on a property next to his in CO. Day of, Hunter decided a tree was in a bad place, so got some dynamite and blew it up. That caused a grass fire, and burned down the hand carved wooden trellis they were supposed to be married on. They split before the wedding was rescheduled. She blamed Hunter and DID NOT appreciate how much we laughed her story... Two bartenders I know who were massively into blow accidentally kicked Doc out of another bar in Chicago, but that’s another story..

It's astonishing how well he ages. He looked worse in the 90's, but I think he had gained some weight, nowadays he looks like a slightly older Crockett. It would probably ruin Miami Vice (although it had some episodes that ruined it to begin with, like the one where he has amnesia and tries to kill Tubbs twice), but it would be interesting to see him again in something related to it.
@DOSkywalkR3 жыл бұрын
@Sky Gardener good for you if you can appreciate it that way. To me it was kind of a betrayal to Crockett's integrity. How could anybody go back to trusting him after that, especially Tubbs? Also I agree that it's an interesting angle to look at with the whole "undercover persona takes over" thing, but it wasn't handled that well imho. And yes, the cinematography was great throughout the show.

I wonder how many viewers have even a slight idea about who Hunter Thompson was? I was living in Aspen in the early seventies when ski bums could still afford it, and I used to have drinks with Hunter at the Hotel Jerome. That was before "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" was published. He was no crazier than me. Later in the seventies, I was living in Las Vegas. There was a project to make his book into a film. It was denounced by an arts commentator on a local station. I called the station to ask to reply. To my astonishment, they were very receptive and asked me to send them a maybe 2 minute text, which I did. They accepted it with no changes. So I went on live telling, not reading my text. Everyone, including the commentator I responded to, thanked me and said I was rather good. They were all very nice. I guess I was ok for an amateur.

That Miami Vice style wasn't from Miami, it was from Los Angeles. All the clothing came from Sy Devore in the SF valley. Lenny Freedman (my late father-in-law) picked all the clothes that both of the lead actors wore.

Umm dude...Johnson wore a lot of Versace (and other Italian designers) on Miami Vice...Ferragamo shoes. The PRODUCER of the show decided how they should look and the costume department did the rest. The no socks and sleeves pulled up was Johnson's choices because it was hot. Devore style is more apparent in White Collar (look at how Neal dresses) and The Rat Pack (Sinatra, Davis, Martin, and etc.)
