i live in the town where they filmed the Return to Mayberry movie, & during that time they changed the sign on our post office to read,"Mayberry" well, my stepdad was offshore on a diving job & when my mom picked him up at the airport, on their way home he always had to stop at the PO to check the mail, my mom(apparently having a devious streak) on their way to the PO told him "oh, just so u know, while u were gone they changed the name of our town to Mayberry" (she said she really had to struggle not to smile) well, he was tired, was only half listening, or something so it didn't register, it was late & my mom casually pointed "see" up to the Mayberry sign on the Post Office, she said he jumped out of the car swearin, wtf! stomping his feet, mutherf*ckin this & mutherf*ckin that & geezus how in the hell...who the f*ck would change the name....to f*ckin MAYBERRY?l?!!& on & on & the more my mom laughed the more he stomped around in livid disbelief, & my poor mom, she's one of those people u don't want to be sitting next to if u aren't suppozed to laugh, the more she's not supposed to, the worse it gets, the convulsions, anyways, i wasn't there but my mom loved telling me that story, she was here, born Phyllis Verdene Hylton, from March 8, 1940, to June 23, 2010. she's gonna have lots of her dogs, & her cats, & her assorted rescue types, every wherever she has gone to, & her plants & trees & music that has to be good enough to dance to, god bless you mom 💟🙆🙏🏼🌎🌱🐾👣🌿🕊️ your story is famous now...✌️💌🐦

He was a great comedian, for sure! We watched the Andy Griffin Show as kids and everybodies favorite character was Don Knotts, he would make us roar with laughter! I salute him for choosing to work out his past and press on, even with the challenges he carried. Thank you for your humor and may you continue to thrive on the other side of this life!

He did know how to debase gay people for a laugh. sick
@jerrylong62383 жыл бұрын
@@LearnAboutFlow So does a lot of gay comedians, but I guess it's ok for them, correct? What is sick, is anyone who can not laugh at themselves now and then. Like Ross Perough when asked a question once he said I'm all ears. (he had large ears) When you can laugh at yourself, people laugh with you, not at you, see the difference? Maybe Don was Gay also.
@TheFifileigh3 жыл бұрын
yeah, i remember him mostly in Threes Company, but i think he did many sitcoms
@LearnAboutFlow3 жыл бұрын
@@jerrylong6238 Um, NO. The Stanley Roper character was homophobic but was subtle and made sense given the context of the times. The Furley character was WAY over the top with the homophobia and was an embarrassment and truly insulting. And i'm not sure how a straight actor playing a straight character degrading gay people in such a viscous way is laughing at himself. Do you make fun of minorities and then laugh at yourself? There was no counterbalance to Furley's homophobia as with All in the Family.

Having grown up in the '60's with Don Knotts as a common place fixture on TV, I couldn't appreciate him. Even knowing what I know, now, he was such a natural that it's hard to conceive the energy he put into every second on the screen to make us all laugh.
