It's incredible and disturbing to me that CNN kept the formerly Teflon Dumb for as long as they did. I say this as a life-long Democrat who has never voted for a Republican and who agrees with 95% of the positions espoused by various CNN talking heads. Lemon is incredibly inarticulate and poorly informed for a person of his ex-stature at a major network. He only seemed really comfortable speaking when he was chattering about himself or focusing on things like what music or trends he's into. The arrogance behind that smooth, "friendly" exterior was evident for years. He recently got into the habit of doing what he called a "humble brag" in which he would go on about this or that celebrity he's "friends with" and blah blah blah. He was embarrassingly vapid. FOX is godawful, but people like Lemon at CNN have given great ammo to people on the right. Recently, we learned that he was a bully boy with his co-hosts, that he belligerently preached on live TV about when women are past their prime, that he disparagingly said to an Indian-American guest "... whatever your ethnicity is," etc. CNN is ultimately to blame for empowering and enabling such an imperious vacuity for so many years.

Personally, I always find it akin to an oxymoron to claim being a "survivor" when you clearly have options and means to help you do more than just survive. Surviving something typically means actually overcoming something that you have to struggle with greatly. You survive cancer, you survive personal tragedy, you survive a life altering accident, you don't actually "survive" being fired when by your own admission you have the option of not working at all if you want. At best, he would have to "survive" a bit of public embarrassment and the question of what he's going to do next. Personally, I would've just skipped the whole "I'm a survivor" thing and go straight to "I'll be okay" because he clearly will be. But today's style, the fashionable lingo of the era, is to call yourself a survivor whenever you experience one of life's speedbumps 😄 But that's just my opinion.

I would argue he did have to overcome something, as rising to the position and level he was at in CNN did not happen overnight. Granted, we don’t know what occurred behind the scenes so we don’t know what challenges he may, or may not have experienced. And warranted or not, a lot of people wanted him gone for a while.
