It's not just illegal aliens coming to the border though it is also asylum seekers, people fleeing the threat of torture, violence or death. Asylum seekers are following an internationally recognised and ratified procedure and are to be treated with repect and dignity. They come from countries run by the vilest regimes and have often suffered far more than most of us in the western world will ever experience.

Fleur Bandito-I understand your response, what I'm suggesting is for Asylum Seekers is, as I believe they constitute a special case, something a little more humanitarian perhaps self contained family units in a secured area while their case is processed. That way way both sides of the argument are satisfied, the Asylum seekers are not free to come and go as they wish while still being offered a degree of compassion which would serve as a good example to other nations.

Mithril Hunt--Well I'm not an attorney or a border agent so I don't know what procedures they follow when a family enters the country and requests asylum. My guess is that there is an application process and an investigation of some kind. If thousands of families show up at the border then we don't really know who has a legitimate case for asylum and who is just trying to get into the country illegally.

As the opportunities have dried up, America has become less worth the effort. This sort of action actually risks delaying or preventing them from leaving. A barrier that prevents people from coming in also prevents them from leaving. Your statement about bringing their problems is reminiscent of Trump's line on day one of his campaign. What problems are you talking about exactly? Undocumented immigrants are statistically less criminally inclined than the rest of us. Our medical and educational systems are good and well fucked with or without them, too. Let's remove the emotion from it. Why are we spending our tax dollars to detain children? Or put up a useless physical barrier? Or criminally charge a bunch of people you could literally turn around and just push in the direction they came from comparatively for free? Its not fiscally responsible and doesn't do anything to make us remotely safer or solve any real problems. Reagan, by the way,(a Republican) gave amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants (his reason: at 50% unemployment in Mexico, he believed it would prevent them from over-running the border - which is starting to happen now because we're keeping people from entering legally - which is why Trump is installing soldiers and putting up razor wire). In 2006, Obama, Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, all members of the Senate at the time, and like 20 - 30 other Democratic Senators (plus like 70 House Democrats), all voted in favor of George Bush's plan for tighter border security and more barriers. In fact, they voted to spend 54 BILLION on border security (a decade ago, when 54 Billion was more like 60 BILLION, I think...) In 2018, Trump was offered 25 BILLION for border security, which would have funded his wall. All Trump had to do was allow a pathway to citizenship for the "Dreamers," (kids brought here by their illegal parents - not their fault) but he wouldn't do it. I'm not sure why he feels that way but he doesn't want them here. So, the DEMOCRATS DO FAVOR BORDER SECURITY. That's a fact. Nobody knows what he's up to (not even him). It's difficult to support someone who says, 'just give me $8 BILLION and don't worry about it. We don't need a plan.' A plan might actually help his cause. Support who you want - of course, but at least have some accurate facts to back up your beliefs and convictions (or maybe you might consider it). All that border crap aside, remain ignorant and one day you're probably going to make a personal decision based on some lie Trump told you and end up paying for it.
