Simply brilliant...Monk/Bach....like Ted Green Don Mock is a genius level guitarist that few people are aware of.

He is brilliant. He was one of my favorite teachers at GIT. Funny, you'd go to a lesson/counseling with him, have a great session, it would be time to go and Don would be saying, "Wait, one more thing, there's this..." etc. It was great, he always was so giving and wanted help you. GREAT guy, GREAT player. Should be better known. But all that have known and heard him understand he is top shelf.

Had him as an instructor at GIT as well. Sadly I never had him as a private teacher

That proofs at least two things: First: the versatility of a Les Paul, second: the genius of Don Mock! Thanks for sharing.

Don is probably one of the most underrated guitarist of the last decades. Maybe because he's mostly known as a jazz educator. This rendition of round'midnight is beautiful.

My favourite guitar player and probably the best guitar player in the whole damn world,it has greatly saddened me over many years why he has not been heard and seen more and made more albums, not living in the US it has always been my dream to learn from him,i hope one day i can meet him and let him know what a huge impact his playing(what little i have heard thru his videos and 2 albums) have had on me spiritually and my playing, god bless him for being !

Amazing...I'm a fan from now on. Incredible counterpoint-chord melody - Ted Greene would love this and like someone else said, Monk would be proud. Scott Henderson and Bruce Forman brought me here.

EgyptianMinor I'm not an expert, but to me, every other chord-melody/counterpoint-guy sounds like they are trying to catch up to Ted Green, except this guy who has managed to take it in his own direction and found things that even Ted didn't.

When I knew Don, pre GIT, I didn't know who Monk was. Many years later, having sung this song countless times, it's a pure delight to hear the harmonic richness of this arrangement, and Don's soulful phrasing. Truly brilliant guy, and wonderful human being.

Amazing guitar player! A Great Musician and teacher, Don Mock is a master on ultra-modern synth guitar and also a magnificent traditional player in the great be-bop and hard-bop tradition. Unfortunately I he never played live in Italy......too bad! I miss the Rhumba-style ending on Round about midnight.....:-)) ettore
