I was really into playing elecrtic guitar for quite a few years, spent time working on Eric Johnson and Satch tunes and Dream Theater stuff. But then I got into Michael Hedges and Don Ross, guys like that. I didn't have an instructor for fignerstyle guitar, just worked on it by myself. I developed my ear some by learning their tunes from the CD and I think by learning that way, I developed my own sound. Anyway, that's how I went about it!

It's called a fan-fret or multi-scale neck. It's designed so that the bass strings have more room to intonate properly. If you think of a piano or a harp, you'll recall that the bass strings are longer. That's the idea being applied here. That guitar is Don's Beneteau baritone. I am having a couple of guitars built with the multi-scale design right now. It's brilliant! Rock on!

Don Ross has truly got the funk. Mixed with Andy's sweet contemporary melodies you get something to behold.

0:01 - 0:04 this is the best anyone has ever played that part in Tight Trite Night. Exquisite rhythm and execution, it doesn't get any funkier than that. No performance comes close to the way Andy played that part in this opening.

Could you imagine how awesome that must be for Andy to not only meet an inspiration of his, but to record a song with him?

I sat literally 'this' far away from them in a workshop last year and they were still doing 'happy-head-bobbing' even though they must've played this song 1 MILLION TIMES! lol - amazing! :-)

If you threw all that is beautiful, sincere, tranquil, magnificent and harmonic along with two guitars and two bearded guys, mixed for 2 minutes, then drank it down while listening to the tide sweep in and out on a warm summer's day, you'd only get something that barely scrapes the bottom of the barrel of refreshment in comparison to this song.

Two of the greatest guitar alchemists ever. It's great to see Andy playing one of his favorite inspirational tunes with one of his early heroes of freestyle fingerpicking :)
@MartinSmithInterfaces15 жыл бұрын
i agree with you. this is true musicianship. People who say acoustic guitar sucks have a very narrow minded outlook on music. If you want some chillout music with a good warm feel and a solid rythem, you have to listen to acoustic guitar music like this. Pentatonics can't quite give you the same feeling. Music is all about setting moods and painting a picture.

Every time Don Ross plays, he makes it look so fucking easy! He bobs his head and just enjoys the music. I bet he doesn't even have to look at his fret hand, no matter what he's playing. This is a man who has truly mastered his craft.
