It really comes down to the type and gauge of the strings you're using (not to mention the action of the guitar itself). And actually I can get baritone tunings on my guitar without much trouble, the strings just play a little looser.

i play antoines reality with my acoustic and i jus go out n buy like a 54 gauge 2 a 12 gauge n it seems fine and thts in like drop b with the a string tuned up a step and it sounds gd =p i think its all bout the thickness of ur strings
