Days of thunder was good. When all you are concerned about is box office returns, then your perception of a movie gets cloudy. To this day, the Rocky franchise feels Rocky 5 was a bad Idea, but it was one of the best.

I think Days of Thunder was a great concept! But what caused it's downfall was a weak script and production costs! Paramount should have greenlit the project when the script was thorough! The Producers should not have not let the production costs to exceed 50 million! It was an entertaining film but it could have been a great one!

She was one if Heidi Fleiss' girls making 10000 a day then set Heidi up & brought her down. These days she's acright wing republican for Fox news. Was engaged to Larry Elder & now trying to take him down by saying he shoved her & pulled a gun on her. Check her out

On January 19, 1996, Simpson was found dead in the bathroom of his Bel Air, Los Angeles home. His death was initially attributed to "natural causes." An autopsy and toxicology report later determined that Simpson had died of heart failure caused by combined drug intoxication (cocaine and prescription medications) while going to the bathroom. At the time of his death, there were 21 different drugs in his system including antidepressants, stimulants, sedatives, and tranquilizers. In August 1996, investigative reporter Chuck Philips of The Los Angeles Times revealed that Simpson had been obtaining large quantities of prescription drugs from 15 different doctors, and that police found 2,200 prescription pills lined up in alphabetical order in his bedroom closet. A 1998 book by journalist Charles Fleming reported that Simpson's prescription drug expenses totaled more than $60,000 a month at the time of his death. He also referred to Don Simpson as "a supercharged simple-minded creature, an Aesop's fable on crystal meth."

@milster I agree with you. 80's was all about big action or sci-fi summer blockbusters. 80 Empire Strikes Back 81 Raiders of the Lost Ark 82 E.T. 83 Return of the Jedi 84 Ghostbusters and Indy 2 85 Back to the Future 86 Top Gun 87 Predator 88 Rambo 3, Die Hard 89 Batman

@milster All great movies, so much thanks goes to Don Simpson. He was the smartest and the richest and just like a Formula One sports car, not meant to last.

@milster I know Roger Ebert really liked Thief of Hearts but I remember Simpson being really upset with the director, saying he should stick to writing. Everyone said Simpson had an extremely fragile ego, once he suffered from any type of failure his contract got bought out and his drug use overtook him and took him out for good. Some people are way too smart for this world.

@milster Yep, Days of Thunder was a huge crush to his ego..So weird that Paramount dumped their Grand Alliance so quickly. I wonder if there was a new studio head who made that decision. Have to research it more. I do believe that when Simpson died in 1996 Michael Eisner said he'd always been expecting to get that phone call announcing his death, ever since the early 80's.

@milster I always loved Tony Scott's aesthetic. The last boy scout is a great example of style over content
