I have been on the "Do Not Call" list for years , and I still get calls from UNIDENTIFIED phone numbers . If you aren't listed in my Caller I.D. I won't answer the phone . It's just that simple .

Easy fix. *Always* let it go to voice mail. If it's important, they will leave a message. If they do... be suspicious. Don't panic. If you are concerned about an issue they brought up, contact that business directly, not with any information from the voice mail.

I got a call one day from a number that I knew well , too bad for the scammer , that the number belonged to an elderly couple that had passed away a couple of years before . That scammer got an earfull on that day .

Just go into settings and block all unknown numbers. It will send all unknown callers to voicemail. If it’s legitimate they will leave a voicemail. Sometimes I answer the phone, “Morgan and Morgan law firm how may I help you?” Usually they hang up immediately.

I agree with all of the comments about not answering numbers that we dont know, but that's a tricky one. Some years ago my husband got into an accident and had someone standing by to call me bc he couldn't find his phone at the scene. I didn't answer and the number kept calling me back to back! They finally texted and said your husband said please answer, he's been in an accident. So every since then, im always thinking should I answer or not. But I do totally understand!

When a number keeps calling me, like that, I answer it, because I think a scammer has a computer set-up to call numbers. When there's no answer, at a number, the computer goes to the next one, in the queue; it wouldn't call back-to-back, like that. I'm so glad they got through, to you!!!!

Well, if someone claims to be him next time saying he has been kidnapped by the Cartel, but he is drinking coffee next to you then its safe to hang up and disregard the caller. Ive gotten a call from my drunk Grandson before wanting to speak with Grama. I told him to stop sucking on bottles and get the needle out of his arm. Grama is shopping! Adding your number to the National Do Not Call Registry gives your number right to the scammers. All those area codes are in foreign countries. They do not care about US laws and are not terribly concerned about the consequences. So they freely use the registry to find valid phone numbers.

Numbers that’s not in contacts automatically get blocked, if someone is trying to reach me leave a message. If they don’t I block that number too and all unknown callers are blocked as well. It’s sad phone companies sell your number for these scammers/ telemarketers to blow your phone up.

Older generations typically answered the phone because of having no caller Id, back in the day. Back then, there was little, to no scam calls though. Today, it is pure “stupidity” to simply answer phone calls from numbers you do know or not familiar with. If it is legit, they will leave a message…and a few scammers will too, but by letting it go to voicemail, you aren’t risking yourself. So simple rule: just don’t answer, if you don’t recognize the number!

If a caller DOES leave a message and number and you still don’t recognize the caller, do a quick google search of the number. If it was an important call there would be a thoroughly detailed message left. If they leave voicemail saying nothing but to call them back, again I don’t bother with it. I know you called so you don’t need to waste my time telling me that in a voicemail. State your purpose and call details or FO!
