When I was pregnant I didn’t want to know what I was having. I had people tell me you need to find out so people know what clothes to buy. My answer was buy gender neutral. If you don’t know what you’re having then you won’t have a name. My answer was I have 2 names picked out. Then other people would say I cannot believe she doesn’t want to know what she’s having, are you crazy you seriously don’t want to know blah blah blah. My answer was always the same I don’t care if the baby is a boy or girl. The only thing I care about is if my baby is healthy.

I never understood why people think it’s okay to touch another person’s tummy. Some women have very sensitive skin during pregnancy where even a light touch can be irritating, leave them alone. If you won’t go up to a stranger and pat their bear belly, why would it be ok to touch a stranger’s pregnant belly?

Haha, my sister used to do exactly this. If someone touched her pregnant belly, she'd immediately reach out and put her hand on their mid-section. When they stared awkwardly or pulled back, she'd say, "Oh, I just thought that was what we were doing."

When I was pregnant with my first child. My husband's cousin asked when I was going to spring. We were farmers, and he was not. That is a term used for cows. It was not flattering being compared to a cow 😮

Many years ago, a high school classmate was pregnant. One of our other classmates reached out to pat her belly as she walked by. I know she dislocated at least one of his fingers and I am pretty sure she broke a couple more. Don't touch a woman's belly uninvited!

The gender thing... yes ... honestly it broke my heart when I got my second boy and some people did not even congratulate me or told me how they would have cried if they had no girl. It was just really hurtful and made me feel that boys are the consolation prize (I am from Europe where girls are actually preferred). It is sad that the gender of children still matters more than the personality. It affected me so much that I also started to feel I need to have a girl and was upset about my boys. Luckily I realized that I am blessed with my children and that by saying one gender is better than the other no one wins as it often just reproduces outdated gender norms. Girls and boys can be sassy, calm, wild or whatever :)

As a Mom of 3 girls who didn't want a boy... The issue is the ASSUMPTION that THAT family is 1) Trying only for a boy 2) Disappointed that they are having another girl Every family is different and some are wanting a boy...but assuming they do makes them feel like their girls are unwanted or less than.

My Doctor had to be called twice because he fell asleep and left my mom in bad shape .. long story short, I have adult Erbs Palsy in my right shoulder/arm. This was the 90's though lol
