Sort of. I think Amy's version had the same spirit as Sam's, just with a reggae beat. I'm thinking more Diana Ross' "Aint No Mountain High Enough"...COMPLETELY different than the original by Marvin and Tammi. Or David Porter's version of "The Masquerade Is Over"...a soul tour de force unlike any version before it. Again, staying true to the original is good and I can still dig it (like Tisha and Tichina's version of this song which is nearly as good as the original), but I'm impressed when an artist turns the song completely on its ear and makes me love it in a whole other way. (Of course this can backfire and make me go "what the f*** is this ish?!")
