In my 7th grade English class, the assignment was to write a twist on a fairy tale. The limit was 3 pages and there was no maximum. I, being the overachiever that I am, wrote 24 pages in MLA format about Cinderella as an alien. There was betreyl, murder, banter between characters, and there was even a battle in space. Needless to say, when I found out we would have to read these aloud, I promptly died.

TW: CSA Idk if my perception is this dark because of my own experience making me interpret things this way but... To me, when "Daddy" told Henry he'd bring him a "special surprise tonight" my brain immediately went to sexual abuse. It... Didn't help when Mat said "secret hugs" (I do NOT think Mat meant anything by this). Then, in the second one when he tells the little girl to come out because he brought her home something special, it felt icky to me. Then y'know, you all heard the rest and Ash calling him a perv. Then with the baby with the crushed skull, it seems like that's pretty cut and dry, given the knowledge that "Daddy" beats the boy. Seems like the guy got pissed at the baby and beat it to death, assumedly by mistake. I feel like "Daddy" was sexually, verbally, and physically abusive to the kids and it resulted in all of their deaths in some way. Also, the clown reminds me of John Gacy, though the face makeup does differ.

- At around 31:39, the way the daddy’s dialogue suddenly changes before he screams makes me think he was talking to someone else, not Macy. - (Possibly Ice Cream Man or Henry.) - He’s talking as if someone walked into the room like they weren’t supposed to be there, and based on the laughing/gurgling, i’m personally assuming it’s Henry. - At 36:06, Sophia looks a little like the red creature that appeared behind the dismantled Henry earlier in the video.

Here is what I think the characters are matching with Martin (the father)= the clown (toy maker) Son?= Henry the puppet Daughter(Macy?)= Sofia the singing marionette Wife = smiling figure Arthur= ice cream man Dog= banzo There are also faces in the tape prior to “what did you do!” Which match up to the characters! Ok ok hear me out… With Ollie and him trying to learn that now everything he does gets him something try this; Every time he does something good/polite give him a a coin ( or just a mental coin), then anything that he wants say that he has to “buy it” with his coins, this was he can learn how to save/spend for the things that he wants. But try not to put the “price” of the toys to high or it will discourage him to think that even if he does a lot of good things he doesn’t get anything. - advice from a kid who grow up with this method!

The older one likes being able to visibly see her money grow, the younger one loves to pick out her stickers. So both children can learn about long and short term investments

Theory: The puppet/thing in front of the wallpaper is the thing you're learning baout in the video. The background talking/noise is how the soul that inhabits that puppet/thing died. The "SP" in SP, LP, and SLP stands for "Standard Play" not "Slow Play," because it was the default setting. Long Play and Super Long Play turned those 2 hour tapes into 4 and 6 hours.

The more similar stories i can give is a teacher making an assignment about writing a small chapter of a book we were reading, and having to introduce a character that fit into the narrative (that one was fun tbh) and then me randomly doing a 1000 or less essay about the history of swearing for my math teacher (he said he made his students write small essays when they swear in class, so i did one in advance lol)

I bet it was a lovely story and you don’t need to worry about how much you write down as long as you enjoyed writing it and you did your best. Besides length isn’t everything and it was kinda hard writing my story because I wanted to make it good, of which luckily it turned out pretty well or at least I think it did according to what my teacher said about her loving it, but if I wrote 100 pages of essentially reusing the same sentences or the plot was too confusing/boring and there’s no good story then the book wouldn’t be very good. Sorry if I made you feel insecure about yourself or your writing I just wanted to add in but you don’t need to worry about it my guy/gal. Adding to the school reading chat, the best book I ever read for summer reading has to be “The book thief” that i had to read between my 8th and 9th years. I left it until basically the last moment, I thought any book for school had to be boring, but I knew I had to finish it. So it was the night before the last day of summer. Open stage to me hiding in the closet at 9 pm. My sister always hated having too much light when she tried to sleep, and since we shared a room, this was my only option. I had previously read about 45 of the first pages earlier that summer, and was not looking forward to what I thought was bound to come. I had my sticky notes, pens, highlighters, all at the ready. For the first hour it was slow yes, but mainly just because I had no hope for it. But after that, Oh My jejwbrjejdjqjdjwjdjfngkwkqnf I was suddenly so inthralled in the pages, all 584 pages. Time has never flown so fast. The next thing I knew it, it was 4 am, and I was sobbing my eyes out in the closet. That book ripped my heart out, played with it like it was a game of football, and then rammed it into my chest again. So yeah that’s the best summer reading book I’ve ever had.

Ideas: I think this is the story of an abusive family and a father trying to get it back (no expert just throwing around ideas) Henry has a long sequence where he talks about his father and how he was always said to be a good boy, never gave him toys and flat out beat him. Maybe his father took him out in a forest and ended his like (perhaps putting a knife in his eye) which is why he's in a forest and is dead by the end (he's also singing) Sophia may have got her head hit against a wall. In her video we see a lot of imagery of heads being hurt from the ice cream man hitting his head on a wall, to the mask with a huge crack, to sophia the marionette having a split down her head so maybe that's how she passed away The baby however i don't have any ideas for but in his (or her or whatever i'm gonna refer to it as him for simplicity) video he's learning how to walk from crawling and eventually how to run and you see him look away almost asking “mama” like he remembers his mom but shes gone and maybe the babies dead in those few second being able to see her I think the clown is supposed to be the father, and after the father killed his children he tried to “put them back together” in the form of toys he used as his job perhaps being a clown, and in sophias video when he's tied up telling her that she can now sing might be him feeling sad about what he did and trying to give her and himself a second chance This is also evidenced in the next videos titled “goodbye my loved” and then “please come back” like hes trying to get back what hes lost or maybe what he himself got rid of in a fit of rage

I had summer reading requirements at my lower and middle school, and there were two books that I read that I loved. One was “We Were Liars”, which is an amazing mystery book that I have since read in my free time because it’s just that good, and another was a book called “Popular” by Maya Van Wagenen about a girl who decided to follow advice from a vintage “popularity guide”, and she learns a lot along the way. In the book “Popular”, one of the things the main character does is sit at random different lunch tables each day, regardless of the social norms of her high school, and becomes somewhat of a separate social circle in and of herself because of her confidence (or more specifically, her fake it til you make it attitude). It was a big inspiration to me growing up to keep making new friends and pushing myself out of my comfort zone, and it’s a book I probably never would’ve read if not for it being assigned to me. That being said, we only ever had to read one book each summer and we got to pick which one from a pretty long list. I think anything more than that is just infringing on the students’ summer vacation, and honestly they could’ve assigned that for English class during the school year. I never really understood the concept of summer assignments.

The "no, I will not sing" choice being the canon choice makes a lot of sense. Martin did not sing the lullaby and when he yells no, it's Sophia (Macy) who attacks him. And since he's watching the tapes, she attacks the screen, which makes it clear Martin is watching the tapes and Sophia hates him for not singing to her. Just a theory :)

What I don't think most people realize is that in the "i shall sing" "i shall not sing" isn't asking the viewer to sing. The "sing for me" command was a command by Maria's father and you're choosing whether or not she sings

Complete side note: Has anyone noticed that the ads KZbin has been showing are like half and hour to an hour long? I just want to know if this is a new development or it's been like this for a while. I remember How to Read Literature like a Professor, namely because my grandma got me like the 2007 version for me when we needed the 2016 edition. So I ordered the 2016 one through amazon. Then amazon sent me the 2007 version, and after asking for a refund they sent the 2016 version. So I had three copies of the same book but only one was the "right" copy. I think I gave one to the teacher and still have the other two.

3:30 going into my high school, I was already a grade ahead in math. we had summer homework of an online math course. Similarly to matpat, they didn't give me a bar to meet, so I decided to just grind out an hour a day in the morning after waking up, listening to music while I do it. Come August, I did the entirety of Geometry over the summer, and boosted up to Algebra 2 honors.

I agree. It was basically "everything = bible" a lot of stuff is, but christianity isnt the only religion. I dont think a lot of it could apply to certain genres or time periods

OMG! Even in Portugal I read "Things Fall Apart" for World English Literature class in college. It is a good book and the explanation they give about mosquitoes always buzzing in your ears has stayed in my memory to this day! But my favourite book from that class was actually "Follow the Rabbit-Proof Fence" by Doris Pilkington. It was such a good book to show you the perspective of the first Australian peoples when they were colonised by the British, I totally recommend it!
