Another way to have fun is to GO CRAZY. I played with my 9 y-o son a Deadpool (Pool) + Wolverine (Aggression) vs. Mojo Campaign after the movie, and we had so much excitement we change the entire MC game approach - strong but risky and thematic decks vs. single scenarios with a lot of module changes. I run a little story, we play with favorite heroes, we lose or win, it doesn't matter. Then we go back to real campaigns and good decks, and construct ideal combination for new players. Yes, don't be afraid, MC is a very rich game system.

Great advice! I'm in that phase rn where I'm craving new experiences. I have been playing a lot of expert Magneto and Ronan etc for my stream, and it is forcing me to try to optimize everything to an exhaustive degree. I am going to emphasize crafting unique experiences with modulars and hero selection and try to use what I learned from making powerful decks for expert, to make functional and really interesting decks that I haven't tried before. Also, going back to old villains with new modulars is really high on my list. Thanks for making this video and giving me more inspiration to be creative with my games!

Happy it helps! But I get it as a content creator. You want to do just the hardest stuff to showcase some cool gameplay with the game. And then it gets. Idk. Stale. Boring. Or maybe just repetitive

Great video! I agree with your points but i personally haven’t seen the hesitancy to try mod sets that you described. It’s probably due to me also primarily playing the recommended mods, but the majority opinion i experience is “you need to play with different mods.” There are people who do it in an encouraging way like you in this video, or VillainTheory or Josh from Get Up and Game who say positive things about experimentation that get me excited, but i also feel like a lot of other people try to push that on newer players who may not be ready yet. When i play a new hero, i prefer to play with recommended mods so i can get an accurate assessment of a hero against a scenario im familiar with. I’m still in that camp you described of not being close to being bored with Marvel Champions so it’s exciting to hear that if i ever do get bored there’s more out there. I 100% agree with what you said about precons though. I personally separate mod sets with precons cus precons are terrible. When i got the core set i immediately created my own deck with cards i thought were good. I actually never played any precon until i did a how to play tutorial for KZbin 😂

Agree with you, valid points. There are also usually "1 per player cards," including and 3 copies. Play the precon, then change it up! Do not be afraid to make changes to precons. You can always change them back.
@BluMarS344 ай бұрын
You make some excellent points. I agree the ability to customize is what makes Champions a great game. I love deckbuilding almost as much as playing. My biggest hurdle initially was coming into the game with biases from reading comics. There were characters I wasn't remotely interested in trying because of stories I had and had not read. Valkyrie is an excellent example. Watching people like you use her character and learning about great cards from MCDB, has made me explore more options and become a much better player.

The thing that's keeping me from splitting up precons and building my own decks has changed in the past few months. It used to be that my card pool was too small -- or, perhaps more accurately, I *felt* my card pool was too small -- and I didn't expect the hassle to be worth the result (I was also cruising fine through standard with precons, so the impetus was lacking). Now, many boxes and packs later, I'm terrified of having to organize and store my collection once I start breaking things apart. I do have the space (I have plenty of empty BCW boxes), I just balk at the effort. The same is true for splitting up mod sets, and having to keep track of where they end up (or just making sure they're organized afterwards). I know storage solutions exist out there, but the price....

Great topic! Love it. Something I always say about Standard vs Expert is that the easy villains on Expert mode are still easier than the hard villains on Standard. So if you play the last scenarios in the boxes on Standard, you can probably beat the first ones on Expert mode! Worth a try!
@professorkid51294 ай бұрын
While I totally agree with using Modulars for variation & theme, I would warn newer players that not all Modular sets are created equally, and I highly recommend @VillainTheory's video ranking the difficulty of the Mods and his resource created to help players choose which Mods they may want to use. Having said this, sometimes it's fun to play with the harder Mods just to see how far you can get using them, or conversely, use easier Mods to lower difficulty. Example, using "Goblin Gimmicks" in place of "Goblin Gadgets" makes Venom Goblin more manageable while still maintaining the theme.

I can also say an option to "step up a notch" from standard in small steps: Use Standard Mod set (exclude Expert mod set) with a Villain starting Level 2 OR ALSO include the expert set alongside standard with your starting L1 villain. Yay Modular....it ain't wrong!

I’m a board gamer, and have no issues playing MC, it’s easy and similar to other games (Dominion, etc). I really enjoy deck building and customizing encounter modules with each villain… I am currently playing campaigns after almost 2 years of having the game and I’m loving it ❤

I usually try a new precon exactly once and then disassemble it. After doing almost no expert at all in my first 90 games, I've been about 60% expert recently and my go-to scenario is Rhino with Sinister Assault. It has low rules, plays fast and ups the difficulty from bomb scare and is super thematic. Yesterday I went even more wild with swapping one modular for 2 modulars, playing Mysterio with Electro and Scorpion modulars and it was weotd and unique, loved the experience!

Love the deck construction element of this game and true solo is the trickiest of them all. Being playing a lot of expert in my two handed solo and the jump in difficulty feels only half as much. I prefer the game two handed/multiplayer as it opens up so many more opportunities, but solo still feels like the ultimate challenge.

For me the key is to put more allies in you deck so that you can survive villian attacks! Try not to enter the villian phase without having 1 or 2 allies supporting you!

Whatever helps keep the game alive for one. I'm trying to figure out ways to shorten the game length. Villain HP seems to be the only target, yet I visualize that some villains balanced their kits with lower/higher HP. This makes me think that this can mess up some of them. For encounter modules, I looked for module categories (minions, lieutenants, villain support, etc.) and substitute accordingly.

Regarding True Solo being so important: Some heroes legitimately can't shine as much in true solo as they can in multiplayer. I'm not saying that true solo is bad or that people shouldn't play it, but I think if there are people who never want to play true solo... that's a totally reasonable way to play the game. Especially, if it gives them more enjoyment out of their collection (like playing with heroes they wouldn't normally play ie maybe Hulk vs Venom Goblin w/ the help of a good thwarting hero). I think the game was designed as a multiplayer game first, but obviously works fine as true solo as well (though, favoring characters that are all rounders). As for a solo deck generally being good multiplayer... probably? Regardless of whether you're playing solo or multiplayer, all involved players need their deckbuilding to focus on bringing some sort of balance to the group. If "the group" is a solo hero that hero will generally will need some sort of balance... ie enough damage to rush and not worry about thwarting or adding enough thwarting to survive if it's not inherently in their kit. So, in multiplayer you're deckbuilding for group balance, whereas in solo, you're deckbuilding for solo hero balance.
@D20Woodworking4 ай бұрын
Respect your points even if I disagree with most of them. What I will say is if you have two heroes that are balanced solo (so general balance) you will do well in multiplayer.

I've got over a 1000 plays solo, but I still lean heavily on the recommended modulars most of the time. Not getting board with it :) I do mix up the player decks more though. I have my mission to play pre-con for each hero I have before I star messing with deckbuilding to get some idea about the "feel" of the hero. I struggle at the standard level. I did try Ironman against the Claw that did not go so well. I will say in my defense I do not get time to play that much. I think you have to know the cards you have to be a better player. I would have said play expert mode I am no good at standard mode. I do think if you are a fan of a certain Hero you do have work on creating a better deck. Something I am not ready for. I did think about using created deck from the online Data Base. I will what add to the game is there are so many ways to change it.

There's nothing wrong with sticking to the recommended moduler sets. It's perfectly fine if you do stick to them and perfectly fine if you enjoy playing your game that way. If you don't want to change them, then don't and enjoy your game the way you enjoy it. There's also no shame in sticking with standard because you want to stay with standard. You don't have to touch expert play if you don't want to. There's no shame in it.
