Big natural hair. I'm a lover of it, been wearing it for over 15 years. People would make fun of me for it, now it's everwhere. But once the trend pass I'll still be rocking mine. Its been my signature style. Good video. Thanks for keeping it real.

I like those pool floats. I think it's equally annoying when people try to be "original" all the time, as if they don't care about trends at all. I like your message here, be true to yourself, but it doesn't make sense to hate on popular trends just because they are popular either. I used to hate pop music just because it was overplayed. But some things are popular for a reason.
@lalafunnys8 жыл бұрын
Thank!!! You!!! Not only that, but what does it matter to her? How is she the authority on all things "basic"? Who is she to say that the things people wear or like aren't things they already regularly enjoy? I like t-shirt dresses, t-shirt dresses are super on trend right now....does that make me basic? No! Because I like the style, and i could care less if it's popular or not. Some things are indeed popular for a reason, and if we go around waggling our fingers at the everything new all we'll be is stuck in the past.

A lot of people (men and women) get caught up in trends and they lose who they are by trying to look like everyone else. Fashion is about self-expression. If you like dressing like everyone else that is okay (as she says) but do it because you like it not because someone else tells you to. She is also catering to the audience that is diverse, and watches her videos regularly and she does have a particular message. I think individuality in fashion has been brought down because of instagram and general social media platforms despite how open our society is about fashion. Wear what you want!

Basic you tubers always wear black, white, grey or camel. The background decoration is minimal and exclusively black, white or grey. There are probably string lights and/or a mirrored surface somewhere in the shot. They are also probably wearing winged eyeliner. Not that I don't happily subscribe to some of these people, but that basic look does start to feel dull and uncreative.

Literally anything else I love black white grey and marble. That's my style. That's my aesthetic. Just cus a lot of people do it doesn't mean it's basic. I hate that word so much and it shouldn't be said anymore. And it annoys me how I can't like those colours and not be 'basic'

I love it when you rolled your eyes Instagram to stress the point that it is loaded with tons of basic trends. It shows how much frustrated and passionate you are in educating to people that is not what real fashion is. Point well taken! Am learning so much from you Lauren! What happens when you have signature styles that are completely distinct from each other? I feel like my preferences are fairly clear and fairly defined, but they are definitely divergent from each other. Right now I'm separating them into distinct capsules in different color palettes (so that I don't throw stuff together that looks horrible together), so I can work things out, but the problem is, I love them ALL. And some of them are just not compatible with each other. I've done venn diagrams and really the only quality they all share is 'softness'. And that doesn't even mean the same thing, in different styles! Like, in some, it's soft undefined pleating, in some it's lengths of floaty fabrics, in some it's the delicate textiles and coloring. One of my styles is detailed and fussy, with a Japanese penchant for layering many small details, one over the other, while another is clean and classic. Some are highly tailored. Others are -- well, saris are the farthest from tailoring one can possibly get, aren't they? I find it confusing, because any one of them could be a signature style for me -- and everyone says that each of them are 'so me' -- but they don't have a lot of continuity with each other. (I am trying to give you enough detail to follow what I am saying, but the question isn't about me personally. It's intended as a generic one.)

I dont see anything wrong with following some trends. For example, yes alot of people buy from fashion Nova, but maybe they actually like their clothes and aren't doing it cause everyone else is. Some people actually had that kinda style before the whole "Instagram baddie" phase came in to play.
@bluntbeauty34708 жыл бұрын
Okay, love Lauren, heck I went to SOS in LA! But.....I think some of you are thinking too deep with these things. IF following trends IS your style, find a way to make it your OWN. I see some of these comments and I'm like, seriously? Because, you follow a trend doesn't make you basic, following the trend and looking like EVERYONE else makes it basic. Add your personal style to it. Not to mention, me personally, my whole entire style is based on COMFORT. I don't like looking like it took me hours to figure out what to wear OR be the girl that is constantly fixing her outfit because she has SO much going on. The point, IMO, is to make it your own. Me, I think OVERDRESSING is BASIC. Most stylist, (and I'm saying most)...look all the same to me! Like they are trying so very hard to look stylish and fashionable, but look like crap. No shade =) lol!

I am 61 and jeans have been my signature style since the 1970s. Even though the styles continue to change, jeans have remained the starting point in my everyday outfit, work outfit, evening outfit, weekend outfit. I have tried to wear different styles of clothing over the years such as skirts, dresses, tights, but I always felt like the clothes were not me, if that makes sense. I didn't feel comfortable. I felt out of place. I have always had a nice body and felt I looked good in jeans but after I turned 50 I started to question whether or not I should start wearing something else more appropriate for my age. I still haven't found anything yet that I felt more comfortable in or that made me look better than a pair of jeans. I love to dress up a pair of black jeans with a silk top and some heels. I also tend to stick to neutrals and rarely buy trendy clothes. So, as you can tell from me watching your videos, I am interested in fashion and learning new fashion tips, I just don't know how to go from living the jean life to dresses and skirts.

Following the line of following your gut with style...I have a question. I love dresses, but I live in a coldish city, it stays like that all year long. Whenever I put on a dress I have to pop on some panty hose, they are ususally black because I feel like the transparent ones are kind of grandma looking, however that gives me a "winter" look every time and I want something fresher. Transparent (flesh coloured) panty hose, Yay or nay?

I love boot cut jeans,and I hate that because skinny jeans are in,which I also love, there are people who talk smack about bootcut...idc i wear em anyways, I also love bermuda shorts ,they're cute and I can't do short shorts because ,big thighs and cellulite and im not comfortable, and nowwww i hear Bermuda are in,which is great,but I have always loved them. just like chokers,always wore them ,made them,and then they got popular, which I love when im on trend, buuuut,im usually on trend anyway, before it becomes a trend lol. Which I love. Because as long as we as individuals do and wear what we love,eventually everyone else will want it too, because being comfortable enough to rock something because it's your thing and gives you confidence, is a very addicting quality people love about another person,and they will want it too.Which is ok too. I used to wear socks with ruffles some years back usually at home, along with different colored socks... though same style socks,and laughed the day I saw them being sold at the stores,with all mismatched pairs because my lil sisters gave me sooo much shit about it , they were in highschool.... and all of a sudden their classmates were doing it,but i did it because heyy,i didn't always have the missing companion. The ruffled socks I stopped, when one of the older sisters after putting on Facebook said only little girls and pornstars wear ruffled socks. I laughed and laughed, and now my ruffled socks sit in my drawer , in the waaay back lol. oh fashion, you silly wonderful thing.

Lauren, your definition of "basic" and mine are totally different. Basic is minimal, simple, non trendy, and elegant but simple style that is natural. Think of French woman and their signature style. Basic... is "not trendy", it is "simple and essential" and genuine, . You are talking 'trendy sheep' that copy every style out there.
