Last year's resolution, I set out to run over 5km every day. Now my Large shirts feel loose. I started with Extra Large. I routinized my meals, and just kept doing it. I feel like this advice is for only for certain people. My life got much better when I became more “complacent” because I was no longer wracked with guilt about not being the best I could be. Sometimes, being the best you can be means treating yourself with kindness and acknowledging how hard you already work. Also, couldn’t imagine applying your advice to relationships. A relationship ideally should be the one place in your life where you can fully be yourself. Doesn’t mean you can’t put effort into it, but I would hate if me or my partner carried the “I could always do more” mindset, sounds rather unhealthy in the long run. Congrats on 270 btw good luck with 3 plates bro

This really resonates with me. I've been feeling a lack lately that I cant describe. I recently got a new job that has demanded more of me, amd I feel that other areas of my life have been lacking drive and motivation and I think it can be chocked up to complacency. Im getting paid more, but have slightly longer shifts and I think Ive been using it as an excuse to slack on other areas in my life. Good shit man I love this format of videos you have here.

Funny this post popped up while scrolling for a bit when I am about to leave my current stagnant and relatively easy job with little room to learn and grow in order to pursue a more difficult trade that has huge opportunities to grow as well as knowledge to be gained. You can fail as many times as needed and do things wrong but the moment you stop caring is when things get really scary.

@@ClassicHaloCommentary You're doing something wrong I can record 60fps gameplay no problem, no post-production or anything like that needed. If you want you could add me on something and I could give you some tips. Like what do you use to record your videos? If you're using Xbox game bar or something that might easily be faulty. Also (and I have a hunch this might be the real issue) you might be recording in 60fps but you don't render your video at 60fps in the video editor you use.

I tried so hard last year, dude. Began the year working a job I hate, dating a woman I wasn't really that into, ended the year waiting to start a new job I was interested in and freshly broken up with a woman I felt crazy over. I think in a sense, that constant improvement is what makes one content-I think a lot of people assume that “content” just means that there is no ongoing change, that you’ve reached a peak, but I personally disagree with that. After all, would you not say you’re content with that constant improvement and rise? Complacency is certainly the biggest issue-for example: people may be complacent in their suffering, they see no way out and are forced to stagnate, they grow to love that certainty, and they love it against their better judgement. I don’t think people who refuse ways to improve are lazy, instead I believe that they are terrified of uncertainty, that they despise it. After all, they’re unsure of what those choices to improve may bring, whether they’ll last or all be thrown away after a certain point. I know that complacency with misery is the murderer of many people. I think everyone needs a steady climb to be truly content, whether it be lifting, writing, or any other hobby really, because simply sitting and rotting is complacency, and complacency is stagnation, and stagnation is death. Tldr: do things that you can always improve at, otherwise you’ll have more in common with a rock than with like, a cool guy.

I find complacency is most insidious in areas of your life that you just don't think much about. Routines, work grind, maybe a hobby; you end up doing the same things for so long, being less and less fulfilled each time, until you just can't take it anymore. Sadly, I had that pretty much destroy a relationship. I think you put it pretty succinctly, but yes: Look out for complacency in everything you do. Treat everything like it's a direct challenge to you to do better. Maybe you challenge yourself to be more efficient in your morning routine, get it done faster with fewer mistakes; maybe you challenge yourself to do better at work, earn a raise; maybe you try to out do yourself on your previous work of a art. I think, in that last case, that's perhaps the only area of my life in which I am not at all complacent. Part of what makes writing fun for me is challenging myself with bigger, more complex, and more unique projects every time. My goal is to get published, and that's a hell of a thing to achieve in itself. Personally, I want to apply more of that logic to other parts of my life.

I agree, but theres gotta be balance. I got ADHD so it might be different, but I struggle alot with perfectionism. Like I cant enjoy hobbies sometimes because I'm constantly thinking "i could be doing better / i'm not doing enough" whenever i try to relax. I cant enjoy video games much nowadays, because part of me feels like im wasting time I could use on projects/work that i'm not interested in. It's exhausting tbh

I strongly disagree, if you're happy and content with your life then that's a good thing, there's no reason to constantly push yourself to work harder if you already have everything you need. Like, I'm no therapist here, but I don't think "always work harder or else everything will fall apart" is a healthy way to live your life, there comes a point where you just need to be happy with what you have.
@ClassicHaloCommentary
@ClassicHaloCommentary 10 сағат бұрын
I can agree with that. If you are at that spot then it’s all good. But I still feel it’s always good to set goals and have something to work towards. But not working yourself to death or anything. Just always striving for something, you know?

Here's the thing though. how does someone who has been complacent get out of complacency? I know its a weird question but I constantly get the urge to go through with things that I know would be better for me, but I don't. maybe its my life situation, but that just sounds like an excuse

I think some people are afraid to take the leap or like one of my friends says about himself, he just feels lazy. But I would say try to envision your goal and once you get in the routine, it’ll become second nature.

I don’t know I think it is okay to allow yourself to have routines, to let some things be stable and be content with that. You can’t keep pushing yourself in all aspects of life forever, you will get tired. And becoming tired of something you used to enjoy sucks, it happened to me in grad school and made me feel almost not like myself anymore. What’s more important is to have things you enjoy doing for their own sake, so that improvement comes naturally as a product of your interest.
