The point of trashing a rental car is that the long term wear and tear is not on you, it's on the company that sells the car after a few years. So no, it makes no sense to trash my own car and baby a disposable rental car. Nobody wants to wreck their own car or somebody else's car. The goal is to not have an accident regardless of whose car you're driving

A lot of talk about the costs of rentals. Maybe I can help! Some of these cars costs 3-5000€ a year just to insure liability only as a track use. The lap prices include fuel, lap tickets wear and tear such as brake pads, tires, bearings, bushings, oil etc etc. When you look at this video and see the sends people are on it’s impressive considering they have to pay for damages. now, imagine that everyone can drive with no consequence of paying for damages. You’d lose half the fleet in a weekend. High excess keep people safe and that’s really what it boils down to. With that said you still get people who over shoot their skill level and have to spend the big bucks. Below someone mentioned the cupra price for rental. Again that included 35€ lap ticket per lap (no you can’t buy a season pass for a rental car. If a car does 1000 laps in a season the rental companies pay the ring 35.000€ for its lap tickets!). But the cupra also has 30k in mods starting with a 10.000€ suspension, a 7,000€ cage, seats, harnesses, intercom systems, fire system and and and. If someone hits the wall the car could quickly be a 60-70k write off and to risk that for 20€ a lap profit would be silly yet that’s what a lot of companies end up doing all the while internet asks why it’s so expensive :-). Hope that sheds a bit of light on some of the ideas and how the rental cars work. Ask me anything you’d like to know and I’ll try to give some input!!

@@RobertMitchellgreat to know that your being able to chill and enjoy the moments. I have a question about the rental business. Wouldn't it be possible to return to a similar setting you had in the beginning where it was less stressful to handle? With a smaller team, few cars, and maybe only allow booking in person and not for a date far away, maybe within the same week. Since the demand is high, you would avoid people traveling with the rental booked, and it would be more predictable about weather and manageable regarding a weekly schedule. I don't know about, just throwing some thoughts, I have no experience with handling a business, I work as an engineer in car companies and would love to be able to drive at the Ring and to see the success of nice projects such as the ones you build

I run a rental car business in Korea. As Germany is an advanced automobile country, they also rent cars at the track. In Korea, if an accident occurs on the track, insurance does not apply. Korea's rental car rules, in principle, prohibit driving on circuits. Even if you use the circuit without complying, tracking is possible because there is GPS inside the vehicle. Using a German rental car on the track is a truly amazing experience. It seems like maintenance costs would be really high, but it's amazing that it can be maintained.
@Alexander.Z1311 ай бұрын
These track rentals also cost alot of money per lap. To normal rentals the same rules apply to the german ones as in Korea.

This is why people who rent these Nurburgring cars should never go for something with tons of power and not "drive it like they stole it". When I rented a Clio 3 RS from RSR I was with instructor and drove very carefully, definitely not using all the Clio capabilites but in my defense it was my very first track experience let alone Nurburgring experience. I do have more confident than I used to have but still I would treat these cars with respect and realize that just because im driving a fast car, doesn't make me a fast driver.

They have normal road car insurance but almost nobody enforces it since then no one would insure their cars at all. Problem is that they need road car insurance since it's technically a one way toll road but there is nothing else. There is a damage excess which most rental companies offer to lower if you pay more. But that is the rental company's sort of unofficial "insurance" because they pay for the damage themselves and the driver pays the excess. They are a bit cheeky and not always advertise this and the excess can be astronomical, way into five figures. The policy for first time comers can be surprising, that essentially you are liable to pay for the damage and there is pretty much no insurance. Seems they also can pretty much charge with the maximum amount based on the dealer pricing to utilize as much of the excess. Even if they fix the cars themselves. It's business after all. Oh, and I didn't mention you pay for the barriers as well. All this is generally documented in social media and forums, so you can look up more specific information. My opinion, unless you are really confident in driving on the track with other people at high speeds, don't rent anything there, no matter how overly excited some of these companies look in the media. Nurburgring is unforgiving and there a many maniacs who treat TF as a track day and think they own the track. It's crowded, closing speeds are enormous and you might get in trouble to no fault of your own. Your few hundred euro laps very quickly turn into thousands worth of bills.

Rental companies usually pay it them selfs to keep the insurance for realy bad cases.

You typically have to cover up to like 10000-15000€ for damages. Honestly for someone who just wants to fly to the ring and experience it without their own car it might be better to go for one of the ring taxis, especially if you have zero experience and actually want to feel some thrill of the speed without the risk of a very expensive bill In fact you can get 2-3 passengers into some of the cars so if you go with buddies and split the bill it's pretty reasonable
