A very solid piece of Cypress becomes this beautiful Live Natural Edge bowl. The lovely grain of the crotch wood is a sight to behold! Turning of this end grain bowl was easier than anticipated except for the extreme pitch content. Still, it turned out to be one of my new favorite videos.

Phil I get up every morning and for a minimum 3-4 hours I sit in my kitchen and watch videos of wood turning. I watch yours most of all because I want it to feel like a class and you are the teacher. Most other videos are just you watching and no one is explaining what they are doing and why. You learn important things by listening and you make listening enjoyable.

Hi Phil, that grain looks dramatic. It reminds me to yew, i turned a handful of napkin rings from a tree i felled and was exiteted of the liveliness of that grain. Thumbs up and thanks to Tuffy, who seems to be a really faithful supporter .

My father built me a gun cabinet out of cypress when I was 15. We started with 8 planks 18 inches wide by 6 inches thick by 12 foot long. Had them plained to 3/4 inch thick, I had no idea I was helping to build my own 15th birthday present.

Very beautiful wood turned into a fantastic bowl. The pitch may have been of some concern but maybe only to a 'dodo' like me but certainly not to someone with your skills & abilities. The grain is quite simply stunning & the finish used suits the piece so well. Why would you confine it to a log cabin, unless it is a beautiful log cabin home. It would definitely be placed in a prominent position in my home. Congratulations to you sir & thank you for sharing it. Stay safe & well in these troubled times.

Hey Phil, One more comment. I noticed during your narrative about the firsts a drill press in the background. It is made up of two pipes, one vertical and one horizontal that supports the drill head on one end and the motor on the other. I bought mine about 56 years ago. Today it would have been on line, back then it would have been mail order from a magazine.
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop 2 жыл бұрын
I remember the mail order days, Russ. Placing the order and then WAITING for it to get to you was awful! That drill press is about that age but I bought it used in the early 90's. My other drill press that I use the most is also from the 70's and I bought it new from the Sears catalog. 😊
