One of my favorite afternoon rest places is in Liberty square, the little guest relations office that has a couple tables and air conditioning. (Pro tip, grab a funnel cake from sleepy hollow and hang here!) one day I listened to this guy absolutely scream at the cast member, holding him personally responsible for Space Mountain being down. “It’s my family’s last day! This is ********, can’t believe you would do this to me” etc, before he stormed off, muttering more curse words I won’t repeat. The cast member just looked....defeated. Like, ready to hang up his Disney smile. So I approached him and cracked a couple lame jokes. I was a pass holder at the time, and had so many special moments because of cast members, I just wanted to make his day slightly better if I could. I got him to laugh and I said “maybe that guy ran out of pixie dust!” And the cast member said “grumpy doesn’t carry pixie dust. Luckily I do!” And reached into his drawer and gave me two paper fast passes good for any ride and said “thanks for talking to me! Enjoy your day, and I’ll enjoy mine!” I didn’t expect anything out of the interaction, but I was so happy to know I’d made enough of a difference for him to want to. My husband enjoyed riding space mountain twice when it came back up that evening. I didn’t ride it at the time, now it’s one of my favorite rides!

Great video and tips! My "don't be that guest" is the know-it-all parent who knows the workers job better than them, specifically the ones that argue that their kid is tall enough to ride a ride "I checked them at home! Your stick is wrong!!"
@angelicareal73813 жыл бұрын
I used to be a ride operator and these guests were what made me want to go home and treat myself to carryout from Buffalo Wild Wings. These parents did a really great job in making me believe that I was the bad guy but I still stood my ground and told them no your kid can’t ride. I even had a manager say to one of these parents that I was a great operator before the parent ended up arguing with my manager about the rules. I honestly think the parents thought that I was telling them no just to be mean but what I was actually doing is trying to keep their child safe.

I hated dealing with those when I worked at Rhino Rally. Especially when they tried to play the "I'll sign a waiver" bit. Great, so I actually care more about your child's safety and happiness than you do
@TheCountessAsuka3 жыл бұрын
@@SirWillow I've heard the "sign a waiver" far more times than I like to think about. With one parent I actually lost my cool and said that I cared more about their child than they did direct to them. Not my finest moment, but the other guests had my back and harassed them into leaving the attraction. On the plus side, it made that kid's day because he was terrified to ride and I made sure the kid knew that I would never let him get forced onto the attraction.

I worked in a very small amusement park. The "that kind of guest" we always got were the ones that argued with ride operators over height requirements. Our park consisted of mostly kiddie rides with a maximum height but a few rides had a minimum requirement. A typical conversation went something like... Me: Oh, sorry buddy. You're too small to ride this right now. Maybe next year, or even at the end of the summer if you have a growth spurt. Parent: Why can't my kid ride? Me: Well, we have a minimum height requirement and he's just a bit too short. Parent: He rode the bumper cars at Other Park! Me: Well, those bumper cars are built to accommodate smaller riders. Parent: I don't understand why he can't ride! Me: We have a height restriction for safety purposes. If the car gets hit really hard with a smaller rider, they could smack their face into the safety bar and get seriously hurt. Parent: But he rode the ones at Other Park!
@PaulStompbox6 ай бұрын
What I would say to the third/fourth "But he rode the ones at Other Park!": _Well this is not Other Park. Go back to Other Park. You were happier there, and we were happier when you were back there. End of discussion._

The only shoes I can wear in the s summer are flip flops. True story. Almost 20 years ago the church we were part of did a mission to New Mexico to hold a Bible school on a Native American reservation. The first day we’re doing a prayer walk around the church and I slip and fall into a mud hole. As my husband likes to say, “The only mud hole in New Mexico, and you found it.” I had only had one pair of flip flops with me, and yup, you guessed it, they broke. We had to drive an hour to the closest town and buy another pair. There’s my husband handing me every pair that he sees in my size asking me, “What about these?” Probably after the 20th pair, I found a pair that felt okay. Not related to theme parks, but I thought you might enjoy a broken flip flops story. Oh, and this was after a week of doing Cub Scout camp the week before and staying up all nite to do laundry the nite before we left so that we’d have clean clothes for the trip and then driving for three days to get there. Looking back, now I’m wondering how I even functioned.

My biggest "that guest" is don't be that guest who tries to get to the front of the line with an "injury". I watched a group of teens swap places in a wheelchair and cast to go to the front of the line again thinking it wouldn't be noticed. (I had them kicked out of the park.) On the walking topic I never understood people who whine like crazy about sore feet. I did 4 years in the military and have WRECKED knees. I have the best solution! When my knees act up it's rest time! Stop to eat, try out close by flat rides, find something close to occupy your time. If my knees go really bad I might at the worst ask an employee to help me get somewhere indoors, and just rest for 15-30 minutes, but I've only ever had to do it once and it felt like my knee was going to give out if I didn't. I dunno, even asking for that assistance that one time made me feel like "that guest" since I threw off some people's schedule just to get me into an Air Conditioned building.

When me, my family and my friend went to sea world in Orlando. Both me and my friend Colton Swayze were both 14 at the time. oh your going to gasp in shock when you hear this. We used to be rebels basically. we used to hop the fences in the cue areas if there were no lines and almost all the ride operators were ethier on there phone or they just didn't care. i can't do it now thanks to hip problems do to complications of scoliosis. And here's whats crazy i use to walk around barefoot at the parks while my friend Colton Swayze walked around shirtless. Essentially we were both bad boys or rebels or punks if you think about it. i use to be able to sit on top of the trash cans but I cleaned it with napkins I use carry around. We knew not to hop safety fences which was good thankfully. But when it came to walking around the park it was like a parkour video to us being made as for my friend Colton Swayze he was on the school track team very fit for his age. As for me I looked like a teddy bear that wasn't that fat looking. And even though I was kinda chunky or chubby I could still move like there was no tomorrow. And what's crazy is I could keep up with him. except my dad, mom and sister they couldn't keep up at all. there were times where they said slow down please. But we ran to most of the rides and by the end of the day we were worn out. I was worn out the most and what was awesome is when we went back to the car. Colton Swayze would carry me on his back because he was obsessed with being fit to be quite honest all the way back to the car. But when it came to Disney ooooooooooooooof. We ran to all the rides but hoping fences in the cue areas was rare because the lines were packed. But when it came to cast members I had one go hey you might not want to do please go around like a normal person ok. I laughed and said normal define normal. To me and my friend normal was boring 😴 like sleeping boring. So when we got on splash mountain just like that i changed my shoes to water and my friend shirtless. Gosh now that I think about it at my current age of 19. I call it the crazy part of my life but yeah rebellion as well. Ultimately I can't do it anymore without pains in my upper, lower back hip pains and I stopped at the age of 16. And my friend Colton Swayze well he unfortunately moved to a different state. But when I look back it was interesting at best.

You know you really need to stop. I mean some people have good intentions. Maybe there should be retired Cast members? Some peaple just are not wired that way. Some people are tired and there are lot of people. Oh my gosh plus the remarks about the mask how could not wear one. There are cast members that constantly yell at you. I really dissapointed with this video. And I worked for Disney

no need to be rude he worked there too and if you watched his vlogs you would know that.

Can't please everyone all the time. And if you don't understand that when Disney says you have to wear a mask, then you have to wear one and refusing to wear it or throwing a fit over it is inappropriate... well, sorry. Welcome to the world of theme parks in 2021. If the cast members are having to yell at you, then maybe the problem isn't with the cast members.
