Don't Bring Your Drone On A Cruise

So tired of the general public's fear and negativity for drones. Consumer drones are not for spying like their military cousins! They are for landscapes! Hopefully, eventually things will get less restrictive as their popularity goes up. But I'm not holding my breath...

We had our drone (DJI Spark) in our backpack on the Norwegian Bliss and it went on with no issues... alas we did not get to fly due to the weather 😢

Hi Jason and Alisa :) I know this is 3 years later, but what is your expirence with drones on carnival? According to their website it can be brought on board but has to be held by security and checked out in port. I guess I'm just worried port of Miami security might not be on the same page as carnival and try to tell me I can't bring it. I've decided I will print out the policy off their website just incase

Royal Caribbean says on its own webpage you're allowed to bring you drone as soon as you don't use it aboard. Flying on land on the cruise stops is allowed to do it so depending of course on its local legislation!

Finding places to fly is tough! We didn't even think about it when we went on a cruise and had to find a FedEx to ship it home before boarding. Slipped our minds entirely.

We had researched before our last cruise; surprised at the restrictions in Curacao and Aruba (basically not allowed). We did get to fly in the permitted zone in Hell (Grand Cayman that is!) Thanks Griff!!

...but security on the ship also just made Anthony super angry because they accused him (wrongly) of flying around this ship in a no fly zone, just because he had a drone! Crazy times!!

In Canada, to fly a drone that weighs between 250g - 25 Kg you require a license that is restricted to Canadian citizens only (and a bunch of other requirements as well). If you are flying a drone < 250 g (ie: the new Mavic Mini), then there is no license required.

If NCL wants to make sure people don’t use them on board they should let us check it in with security and check it out when at a port of call.

I do know that some of the Myans ruins in Mexico though are gorgeous and are perfect for airial footage do not allow you to fly your drone over the ruins. Though not advertised you will see the signs posted up in numerous spots for you not to.

I’m going on Carnival cruise (hopefully) in February to St Maarten, St Kitts, PR, Grand Turk. And I plan on taking my DJI. I don’t wish to film the ship. I’m more interested in filming around the islands and beaches or POI on land. Any tips on these stops would be great

I’m taking a Carnival Pride Cruise this weekend, in your video you say it’s allowed to take drones on the ship. My question is where is the drones kept? I was told by carnival security holds them until docked for a excursion. Or can I keep it in my room with me? Thanks

I love the drone footage it's awesome however when we are on the MSC Armonia in September my daughter saw one flying around when she was reading on deck and it felt creepy to her. She was in a section of the ship in the aft where not too many people were.

To me they should be allowed on board and just kept in the stateroom on every ship until you get somewhere. Why some cruise lines don't allow it is beyond me and silly. I mean you want guests to come, you want them to have memories and for some they want some drone footage sprinkled in. If some places don't allow drones cool that's on the guest but the cruises themselves should let it fly.
