As someone who has actually gone to therapy for losing jobs due to being overly defensive, here’s my advice on dealing with defensive people. PUT THE COMPLEMENT AT THE END. I’m tell you this works so much better because the last thing they hear before they react is something positive so they will react slightly more calm.
