Every now and then somebody comes up with something actually useful. I truly give this a thumbs up!

This is one of the best ideas I have seen in a while. This is a quick, easy, versatile, and affordable solution especially for those who are not primarily woodworkers and don't need to invest in a proper carpenters vise.
@ashokkumarnarayan19242 жыл бұрын
Congratulations to you. It's by far the cheapest and best solution in place of a vice.

the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. kzbin.infoUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

If you're on a budget you probably won't have a table saw for starters. Most people get a vise long before that.

Been putting thoughts together for my first bench build, and this solves one of two problems, just need to make it with height adjustment above the workbench. Thanks for posting, without darft musical background, though showing the completed vise at the start would help explain. Love the version with the wide front jaw too, Cheers.
@tomfull66372 жыл бұрын
2.0 development tip: Make a slot on the inside too! Insert the clamps with the stem inwards. Now they’re obstructing you. 2.1: instead of long handle to screw the clamp tight, have a fixed stop on the inside (= saw off the handle) and now drill a hole on the outer default fixed bracket and put an eccentric handle there. This will squeeze the part much quicker than screwing a handle and doesn’t take so much space. Simplest way is to slaughter two clamps and move the fixed brackets over to those two for the bench vise.

It's decent for some odd clampings. But the carpenters vice is better for clamping over and over quickly. As well as strong tight , no movement hard hitting needs. Still a very useful system.

I don't think it replaces a carpenters vice, but in conjunction its a great idea. Especially when you're working with sheet goods that don't particularly like staying put when held in a vice. You could even use some cheap quick grip clamps

Great idea, but a specialist carpenter vise will place the clamping force over a greater area of the workpiece, be stronger and less likely to damage the workpiece.
@wi16772 жыл бұрын
add an extra strip of material to spread the pressure.
@pacefactor2 жыл бұрын
And less likely to damage your clamps. It is a good idea for quick setups though
@velcroman112 жыл бұрын
Yes, this method could damage to work piece BUT, “beggars can’t be choosers”, right.
@TheLovelyMissBeans Жыл бұрын
@velcroman11 you could always use some cauls or just add another piece of wood in between the clamps and the work piece if you are worried about marring it.

For the investment, it’s a very good result. It is unquestionable that this ‘vice’ will hold things that a traditional vice cannot. Personally, I would use clamps with a bigger clamping surface.

@@mrniusi11 In American English, the noun 'vise' refers to a gripping or clamping tool. As a verb, vise means to force, hold, or squeeze as if with a vise. In both cases the 'British' spelling is vice.

@franklloydwrong69972 жыл бұрын
The minute I rip my thigh open on the clamp ends is the time the whole table gets tossed in the burn pit
@kz.irudimen2 жыл бұрын
@@franklloydwrong6997 Yeah I would definitely only use this with short clamps and I would add something at the end of the clamps (foam or leather or whatever) because I would also stab myself with this. But when you're not using it it's not an issue so I think it's still a decent cheap/easy alternative to a Moxon vise.
@582tird2 жыл бұрын
Might try this in place of a Moxon vise for dovetailing, kit prices have gotten outrageous ….
