UPDATE: Extrems has notified me that no configuration of Swiss is required to get the ETH2GC to work. Once you update to the latest version of Swiss, the ETH2GC is ready to go, just plug and play! If you enable Broadband Adapter Emulation by default, it will disable memory card emulation for all games.

@@rc_maticFor some it might be just nostalgia. GC might been "shortlived" in comparison of other systems of the generation, but for some people it might been a console that became something special for them, like being their first console. It's also purely a matter of taste, but personally think the GC looks way much better than the bland white block that the Wii is. Also any opportunity to avoid Wii's motion controls, even for just browsing the Wii menu, is a win.

@FyreWulff
@FyreWulff 8 ай бұрын
No problem. The short version is for rollback you need to store copies of the match state in RAM. So every frame, the game is saving a snapshot of the RAM values used by the match. These snapshots are what is actually "rolled back" to when it needs to go back to a known good frame if it guesses wrong. This gets more complex the more variables there are in the match, and Melee is complex due to the fact that it has to track items, stage animations, etc. Modern games can account for this RAM usage, but on GameCube Melee is using pretty much all the RAM. So there's not enough space to put those previous frames to roll back to. Slippi can do it because you have to run it on a PC, and since the GameCube only had 24MB of RAM there's plenty of spare RAM on modern PCs to brute force saving frames to roll back to. @@PERSONALEEMG

Yeah, THE big con for me is that this uses Serial Port 2. Some people have DOL-001s that lack Serial Port 2, and DOL-101s pretty much all lack it completely. Meanwhile my SP1 is completely empty and unused, and I have no reason to put an M.2 Loader in there as I have a GC Loader HW2. I'd love a broadband adapter replacement that goes in SP1. I LOVE the concept of expanding GameCube with online support patches though. I could just imagine a sophisticated online matchmaking feature being added to Mario Kart: DD that matches MK Wii's (as opposed to direct connection), for example. Nintendont on the Wii is also capable of emulating the Broadband Adapter support using Wi-Fi, so the overall accessibility of GameCube Online should improve with time.

The cons are that both versions take up space on the *side* of the Gamecube (would be nice to have it on the back). Also that it takes up the SP2 slot so you can’t have an SD card there. But I absolutely LOVE that this is a thing. I have BBA’s for all my Gamecubes and I’ve been missing online support in the homebrew scene. Hoping this will spark a flame on that front😄

I got a pair of Broadband Adaptors in the last year so OF COURSE modders were to make an alternative just after xD You're welcome you all. Now I'll have to consider selling them quickly in case the price comes down... unless I keep them an call it a day. I guess the main argument for keeping them is that esthetically it looks better to have my SD Card in the SP2 slot + a broadband adapter compared to a Gecko in the front + a protruding ethernet Port. Idk, I'm torn.

My biggest con is that it doesn't look like a stock Gamecube anymore and I don't ever buy mods that change the aesthetic for my consoles. I wish they gave an option that would route the RJ45 plug through the broadband section of console so it doesn't ruin the aesthetics.

This is a pretty cool idea, but I need the SD2SP2 for my setup, so I probably won't be going for this until they release a version that allows it to function alongside it. Glad to see that the GC modding community is still thriving though!

I am really tempted to buy a GameCube again after seeing recent addons. I wonder why they didn't use the other port which wasn't occupied by the GameBoy Player but it is what is. Hope we get a new Dreamcast MODEM/LAN adapter too.

Having learned my lesson by not having the Dreamcast BBA, I snatched a GC one when they were still readily available. Same with the DC Vga cable, so I paid $15 on sale for the GC Component cable when I could. I'd love to see one of these for the Dcreamcast.

Broadband adapter to wifi is the obvious next step. Granted you could just plug it into a cheap $5 wifi extender to do the same thing, but an all in one solution would obviously be much better.

This is pretty cool. However, an even cheaper option for anyone that already owns a Wii or Wii U is to use Nintendont, which I understand now emulates the BBA. Also, 8:32 "There is an alpha build of [Twilight Princess multiplayer] available for Patreon supporters." Incoming DMCA in 3, 2, 1... Nintendo has previously taken down multiplayer mods like that (SM64 online), and strongly prioritize projects that receive financial compensation. Patreon paywall shenanigans is exactly what made them pull the trigger on Yuzu.

Thing is, I bought my broadband adapter, and GB player back when they were still pretty cheap. About $15-20 for the GB player complete with the disk and $25-30 for the Broadband adapter. This was in the middle of the PS3/360 era when everyone was pretty much done with the previous generation and focusing on the current Gen, you know that period in all console life spans where most of them end up in landfills and yard sales. I also bought for around $15 the keyboard controller. I'm glad I did because of I had waited prices world have kept me from even considering any of these things.

The only cons I can think of is that it protrudes out the side and doesn't use Serial Port 1 like the original adapter does. I prefer more of a stock look.

The one con would be that you can't use the versions of this available right now & load Swiss via a microSD card at the same time. And even then there's a version with a microSD slot in the works so it's something that will be rectified in the future.

The only reason I even bought the Broadband adapter (I was still using dial-up up until late 2008) was to hack the GameCube. I also bought a copy of Phantasy Star Online Ep I and II as it was need to hack the GameCube. I still have that same offical Broadband adapter and that game today. I got the adapter used from my local GameStop. I don't remember the actual price but it was less than $30.
