Hey there, you helped me immensely with my first big car purchase. A 2009 CRV that at the time had 90k on it, I bought it from a single owner who bought it cash brand new and basically used it as a 95% highway commuter from his city to mine about 50 miles away. He literally showed me his paperwork as well as some recalls he had done to it, it was even kept in the garage haha

I agree with you Greg. I really liked the jeep brand back in the 60s/70s when I first got my driver's license. They weren't perfect but they were so easy and affordable to work on. As for the brand today, the list of what's NOT wrong with Jeeps is a lot shorter than the list of what IS wrong with them.

Haha - summed up so well at the end. Yeah, that is very much the same thing many of the well known KZbin mechanics echo as well. On a crazy sidenote - did you see that the RamCharger electric truck they're making is going to have one of those 3.6L V6s in it as a "range extender"? Aye yi yi... that is a disaster waiting to happen.

I am a Jeep tech and i only see these problems on people who don't maintain there cars . The molding that came off someone getting out of the car probably got there clothes caught on it . the only thing that i would agree is the oil filter housing starting to leak from the seals at high mileage and they can be replaced .

Thanks for telling it as it is Greg. I kid you not, almost every Grand Cherokee that was booked in for a logbook service, had the owner complaining of a list of faults on the driveway. To the point where it was rare that a customer didn't have a list of issues they wished to add to their "service" the only ones that didn't were near new very low milage ones. These vehicles seem to be as reliable as a politicians promise, and around as expensive to fund.

I bought my wife’s 2012 Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 with 82,000 in 2015 from her , I drove it until 145,000, During that time I did have to replace the water pump, a wheel bearing , power steering rack , multiple running and headlight bulbs burned out ( replaced them myself via KZbin help). I did enjoy the 2012 jeep. I finally traded it in 2024 for a new 2025 Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 Cost me $50,000 including all fees and MA state sales tax . I did get the extended warranty ( it cost me $3200) going out to 75,000 miles or 10 years covering all electronics and free loaner on any work needed . 0:15

So do Grand Cherokees have 9 speeds transmissions? And do you know what they hell you are talking about - also - how many 3.6L Pentastars are out there? I know this as a guy who did rocker rollers/lifters - but I'd almost consider that maintenance - I did it myself which is way cheaper than a shop - but then there is the timing chain vs belt conversation, my cams were fine so only roller rockers and lifters, $350 in parts to do it myself, and as for the oil filler issue - that is because shops over tighten the filter cap, and likely use an impact

FYI 3.2L Cherokees do have 9 speeds - Grand Cherokees had 8 speeds - to the best of my knowledge

Usually a manufacturer works out kinks 2-3 years after a new model is release and patches all the bugs. I'm really surprised that Chrysler didn't do anything about the rocker arms despite it being a bread and butter engine for them.

They are riding on their legacy as a durable and easy to repair go anywhere vehicle when the modern Jeep models are nothing like the ones of the past. Mercedes Benz did this starting with the 2000 model year S class. It worked out for them in terms of sales. They have never sold as many cars as they do now. Most get junked before reaching 15 years or 150K miles. Maybe it will work out for Jeep like that too.

100% disagree Greg. I have had a few jeep grand Cherokee limited. Current one has 252k. just replaced trans 4k ago. oiler cooler 12k. water pump 10k ago. also with transmission replaced i swapped out the motor mounts. I am driving a 2015 limited trail rated. i did all the work myself. Greg i had no problem changing the plugs and filters etc. why are you dissing the jeep Greg? If you can change a tire you can do everything on a jeep. How do you feel on the new jeeps? LOL

so sad for me to hear lol. I have an XJ cherokee with a quarter of a million miles on it and am being pushed to buy a "more reliable" vehicle by family and gf. This is the only "modern" vehicle I can think of that is appealing to me, but I know the jeep name has gone downhill immensely since the XJ days. I thought maybe this model got a little more love than the pathetic Compass and even the regular Cherokee. Now I gotta go back to the drawing board for what vehicle to buy lol. If anyone has recommendations for a truck/SUV in the 12-14k$ range with towing capabilities and 4WD please let me know lol
