Love the way you present. Not many people compare the workflow (which is the key). They just point out that “Product A is better than Product B”

I think the best workaround I have discovered with single dose grinding is using coffee storage tubes/vials. It makes it so much easier because for one - the coffee is pre-weighed and ready to go so you don't need to worry about that and second - it is correctly stored in air-tight (mostly) containers! Best of both worlds IMO. :D
@CoffeePartsTV Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! Just takes a bit of work prepping all the vials when you get your coffee, but does make it easier to use after.
@Gk2003m Жыл бұрын
Only works, really, if the vials leave no room for air. It’s like ziploc bags; they are only effective if you take the time to remove as much air as you can.

I’ve a Specialita and am getting zero retention with consistency using RDT, which it might not even need to do. Came from the Sette 270 which honestly is a zero retention champ (w/RDT). The Spec is equally beastly in this department even as a single doser!

Cracks me up how all these reviews imply that just because you have a factory hopper you can’t use the machine to single dose - like it’s going to blow up or something. People should just try it - get scales and maybe a bellow kit.

Surely it depends how many coffees you are making in a day, if your only making a few cups a day you don't wanna be filling a large hopper up and visa versa it all depends on the individual

I have a Niche. It's my first ever grinder and it's great. I'm itching to get a flat burr single dose grinder though. I'll stick with single dose, low retention grinders I think. If I'm entertaining lots of people it'd make more sense to get something like the Eureka.
@noControl556 Жыл бұрын
The solution for me was to add a bellows single-dose hopper to the Eureka, then can have best of both worlds. I spray my first shot of the day and usually drink 3-4 shots throughout the day and only have around 0.1g of retention. Use a dosing cup to measure beans then grind into it, kind of annoying to grind into the portafilter on the Eureka Mignon Facile with the funnel attached. Grind on demand makes more sense to me if you are running a shop or making a few shots in a row for friends if you have a grinder that can grind by weight or time and you already have those beans dialed in, retention doesn't really matter as you end up pushing out the last bit of the previous grind (if still fresh) and works out to be about the same.
@tom_nuyts9 ай бұрын
thx for the informations... BUT: @ Ni she Zero... etc. - why not grinding into the ports filter directly, eventually with a funnel??? particularly to avoid unnecessary contact with aggressive oxygen?!

Thanks for this Pedro. I have been intrigued with Eureka's Mignon line and settled on the Facile. I also ordered a single dose hopper with bellows. I cannot wait to get started.

Single dose grinder is much MUCH MUCH better than normal grinder. It's not even comparable. Once I switched to single dose grinder it made all the problems go away. No retention means that you can change grind when dialing without wasting more coffee. You can do simple adjustment every time you brew so you always have great coffee every time. You only need to weight input beans which is easier and better than doing it after grinding or "volumetric" - time based grinding. And you should weight output anyways so you need the scale at any rate.

@aldeen1982 Жыл бұрын
For a home barista the single dosing is always better: - fresher beans - you can easily switch beans - perfect dosing Its just a bit more effort but the benefits outweight the cons. Easily.

I have a specialita with 3D printed bellows to blow out the retained grounds for my 0 retention. As for work flow, I believe that if you have purchased an expensive espresso machine you should take that extra step to weigh in your beans. BTW, Do you sell the eureka single dose hopper and bellows?
@kevinfridman6154 Жыл бұрын
I'm new to this stuff and researching to buy my first grinder. How does this sound with the Eureka. Figure the amount of beans I'd need for a full pot and only put that much in the hopper. Then grind them all out. Do that each morning. Seems simple. Am I missing something?
@Gk2003m Жыл бұрын
Every grinder is single dose. All you need do is keep it empty, and pre-measure the beans you’re putting in. Then grind til there are no more beans.

Hi! Thanks for the video! MY big question is: can I use the XL as a single dose grinder due to it's very low retention? Eureka guys told me that the grinder is designed to work on a full hopper, but we all know that full hoppers also get to the point where coffee finishes. So, what's the deal?
@rsvaghi7 ай бұрын
Agree with you, I think the XL can be used as a single dose. In addition, you can purchase the single dose hopper and bello as parts. Then you have the best of both worlds.

Why not use your XL as a single or double dose once the dips/gaps are filled. The gaps around screw holes etc once they fill with ground coffee stay there until you do your periodical clean. (When that happens a quick fill grind refils the gaps.) And you are ostensibly zeroed. So you will have 20g in 20g out, or in my case, 40g in 20g + 20g out. Remove the hopper device with your own anti-popcorn disk. This doesn't make the XL better than the Niche it equates it. It gives you flat burrs with clarity over conical burrs with body. That's the difference between the two, the style of espresso you prefer.

What you're forgetting about single dose, which is the biggest upside for me, is that you don't waste nearly as much coffee when dialing in.

Get scales and bellows for the Eureka and it’s a single dose grinder. Why are all these reviews imply that just because you have a hopper based machine from factory you can’t change it up so it’s single dose…?
@rhoelg Жыл бұрын
What's stopping u for pouring only 18g beans on the other grinder?
@seancole22 Жыл бұрын
Popcorning is really bad and can effect grind size so if you are always single dosing in a large hoper, you will always get popcorning and a less then optimal grind that is not uniform.

Next time! But taste comes from which bean you are using - So very difficult to compare.
@ramrod1012 Жыл бұрын
Though everyone is saying single dose ist better, the bitter truth nobody wants to hear is that none of the people here commenting will ever notice a difference in taste when making the coffee with the minimal "retention". Apart from that, please remember you have a single dose upgrade incl. Blow up cleaning for a very small amount of money.
@lyleallan51242 жыл бұрын
I had a Specialita and moved to the Single Dose. I don't get the same results with the Single Dose. 20 grams in, sometimes 20 gr out, sometimes 19.2 grams out, sometimes 21 grams out. If you hit the bellows too hard, they come off. It was performing well for awhile, I then tried grinding for pour over and it took about a dozen shots back on the espresso grind setting for it to start behaving again. I haven't changed the settings or the coffee and it has again started with a wide variance. I appreciate the comments about single dosing, but this grinder has been more of a headache than a help.

What single dose do you have
@lyleallan5124 Жыл бұрын
@@chadcain9974 Eureka Single Dose. It worked ok and if I just kept in on espresso grind, would probably would have been fine. As mentioned, the bellows kept popping off on mine and I found it a bit troublesome to weigh before and after grind. I don't have that kind of patience. I traded it in for a Lucca 75 (Clive Coffee model). Still have to weigh after (usually pretty close), but I get a 20g dose in 2.6 seconds and I really don't find having beans in the hopper overnight that big a deal for me. I understand the desire to try and make things as perfect as possible, but for me, it is all about ease ....

Mignon grinders' retention is crazy bad. Even with a bellows and tilted base. They all use the same mechanism, but with varying electronics. The chute can't handle the combination of static and oils, and their mechanism doesn't have a spring-loaded agitator. Do not buy Mignon grinders for single-dosing.
