@@diyboomboxesintexas2805 bit late of a reply sorry about that, but that 120dB claim is taken from about a foot away, in their FAQ page they have a picture of a handheld decibel meter reading 122.5 but there only seems to be at most 2-3" of space between the box and the device. It's actually a 2-way 6x9 that has a 1" titanium tweeter, so I'd wager it's actually probably around 108dB or so if one took a proper measurement of it.

I have been making these for years. Never had a heat problem. I would say a 2800 model with a single speaker which is smaller than this one would be easier to fit on a powered wheelchair

What is the purpose of boosting the voltage coming from the battery?

That particular amp has its gain adjusted by its voltage. At 12 volts you get 100 watts At 24 volts you get 200 watts
