The BMW Race Display Steering wheel is, for many, the ultimate interior modification. But does it live up to the hype? In this video, I’ll show you what it does, discuss what it’s been like to own long term, and give you my final thoughts after two years of driving.
In hindsight, this steering wheel is probably better suited for manual cars, or people who race competitively. Still, it’s a fun toy and has been a conversation starter at every car meet.

was using led steering wheel on my F30 too, I think it was 1 year ago. very cool and sporty and all but when you go for a long trip It would make your eyes tired. The last time was I ended up pulling over then switched it off then it was very comfortable for my eyes with the rest of the trip I got

This video came out at the perfect time. I just bought one from a seller who didn’t have the wiring harness or the control module for $800, and I was able to source those two parts for $450. I haven’t received them yet but to me it seems worth it because of the fact that it matches with the rest of my m performance parts. I love the stitching and the alcantara. I’m also a huge OEM+ guy and purist so it matches with me perfectly. I’m not sure if I would have bought it if it was full price however.

I also want to mention that I prefer the steering wheel with the display over the one without it which is much cheaper because it doesn’t have the red stripe. Nothing else in my car is red and I feel like the red stripe would just make it seem out of place.

I love this steering wheel and I don't mind having one retrofitted into my 2013 328xi. My only fear is the distractions it can bring to me since it's my daily driver. Imagine having all these lights flashing in front of you at the time your indicator light signal and clicking noise. I may get used to it with time but will again miss the beefier heated steering wheel feature on colder days. Nice video Justin, thanks for always bringing us informative content. It gives the car a sporty and aggressive feel. I may fix it just for looks and not for the technical data/information that it can display. The looks alone is a steeze on it's own.

Could there possibly be a low budget race steering wheel with just the lights but minus the other technical features/functions? Some of us will like that just because of looks and having the feel of a race wheel. Not so much interested in the other features.

The experience of this steering wheel is incredible. It goes without saying that it is slightly wider than the conventional M Sport. Like you said, if it's possible to purchase, go for it.

Excellent work as always 😁 and how fitting just as i need to replace my steering wheel... To find one for the E90 is a proper pain not to mention the price, i guess I'm just going to stick to the regular MSport E90 wheel with paddle shifters and retrofit that to the car😁

Just installed a aftermarket wheel in my M2. leather and alcantara with a blue racing stripe. Thought about doing the leds but not the biggest fan of having to turn them on after you start the car. The BMW led does look amazing though

I think they look really cool, and do like the idea of having the shift lights in the wheel, the price tag and losing my heated steering wheel in the process make this upgrade a firm no for me. Heated steering felt like a silly overly posh feature to me, until I used it on the first cold winter morning here in MN... and now, having daily driver without a heated wheel is a deal breaker for me.

Good production value on this video. Not a fan of these LED shift light carbon fiber steering wheels though. I think it makes the car look cheaper. This wheel at least is a nice compromise , while still not my cup of tea.

"Makes car look cheaper" Wtf how? the steering wheel is way more musculine compared to standard, its fits to every sports car and the led is extra gadget for racing feeling. If the next buyer doesnt like it everytime on, He can just hold the buttons 3 Sets and its off

@@Rnbsoccerstar7 Glad you like yours, I still think they bring the overall look of the interior down. The carbon part is fine (though from a practical stand point its less race inspired that leather/Alcantara). It's mainly the LED screen that I think looks cheap.

I'd consider getting the E8/9x version for my E88 since I already swap out the Msport/heated wheels between seasons, since they unfortunately never made a heated Msport for the E8/9X, not for the price they go for new though.

@@justinbuice I'd say it definitely is. After you do the initial retrofit (if needed depending on model/year) you can leave most of the wiring, then it's as simple as pulling off the airbag and swapping the wheel.
