i currently have an estate washer and dryer which has lasted since 2005 and one repair. i was thinking about upgrading to something with the digital display, but the knob works for me too. I have a super king bed and it fits the comforter inside the estate washer and dryer. the dryer on the other hand has had three repairs- two by a tech and one by me. the gas solenoids and the ignitor twice plus the thermal cut off ( i have extra parts just in case). Does this means the SQ dryer has a small capacity drum? or will it fit the super king item?

I wash three king-size microfiber plush blankets in my TC5000 and have watched the turnover during a complete wash cycle. It does a fine job in a normal cycle, and my grimy work clothes actually get clean. When I have to use a coin laundry for rugs or bath mats I use the Lysol or Clorox brand laundry sanitizers.

My only beef is that I shouldn’t have to call a repairman & pay 200+ to remove the agitator & get an apron string unwound from the agitator axle..This should be easier, like replacing the belt on a vacuum cleaner. Another KZbinr says it can be done with inflatable airbag shims.. We’ll see tmro..🤔

The speedqueens fill to 100%. The larger cu ft competitors typically fill to about 60% . a 5cu ft washer filled to 60% is only 3 cu ft. which is worthless when you have an additional 2 cu ft of comforter that doesn't get wet, or worse becomes soap stained.

Many other KZbinrs and Vloggers describe how great the model is because 'It's so easy to repair'. If I have to replace the plastic POS spindle 3x in 3 years, then it's not a good product. period. Ultimately the suspension failed. My biggest complaint on the speedqueen so far? I had to clear out my drain pipe because the discharge was too much for the 40 yr old clogged drain I had. I moved from a house with a new whirpool top loader, and when I'd wash our queen comforter, a portion would come out dry. Like no water had ever touched it even after a full wash cycle on deep water, bedding. I recently got the TC5 and it does a great job washing that same comforter. If you pay attention to owners manuals, you can fill speed queen to the top. New "large capacity" washers can be filled 3/4 of the way at most. The true capacity ends up being the same as a SQ.

Y'all do know there have been NO Maygtags born since 2006. Maytag was obsorbed by Whirlpool who scrapped all Maytag designs and engineeing. Don't understand the comment "Maytag having a bad year". Since 2006 Maytag + Amana + Admiral are all Whirlpool under the name Label. Whirlpool makes decent machines at many price points. Just understand what level you are purchasing and does it fit your needs and budget. Speed Queen TC5 is the only product you can get in North America that is close to the 25 - 40 year Maytags your parents and grand parents talk about. TR series Speed Queens are for a different customer than the TC series. TR's are quieter, gentle on clothes and use less power and water than TC's. But if you are a Farmer, Auto Mechanic, Plummer or just have a bunch of dirty kids than the TC may be a better fit for you, because they clean the realy hard stuff. Research them and select the one that works for you. All Speed Queens ain't cheap but after year 14 -15 you may find the extra upfront cost was well worth it.

For me (being single), the smaller tub capacity of a Speed Queen wouldn't be any issue whatsoever. I used to wash ALL my stuff by hand (for over 30 years) so if I need to go back to washing a comforter by hand, that's fine. Besides, I STILL wash large bulky items such as blankets by hand anyway. I don't ever use a dryer, as I air-dry my clothes...so all I really need nowadays (for convenience) is a washer. Even if I let laundry pile-up, even THEN I don't have THAT much to wash really, so the smaller tubs Speed Queens have wouldn't in any way stop me from getting one (or waiting until they came out with larger-capacity tubs). Of course, I realize my situation is not "the norm" and so most people have different requirements -- AND likely families -- so I can see where a larger capacity tub would be better...for me though, it isn't. -- BR

@@hiker-uy1bi No, I air-dry them. Same for blankets, etc. In all the apts I've rented that came with a W/D, I never used the dryer -- a waste of money (electric bill) that isn't necessary. And what's the "urgency" to get something dry anyway? There isn't. I hope to buy a house in 2 years (in Colorado Springs) when the market is less insane, but even then would not buy a dryer, just a washer. In the space next to the washer -- where a dryer would have been in "normal" households, I'd build a rack to hold my large ("AquaTainers") of water, part of my Emergency Supplies (food, water, power, etc.) I always have on hand no matter where I live (even when renting). Having the water there in that space instead of a dryer is WAY more useful to me. -- BR

I don’t think you should wait at all if you need to get a new washer, get yourself a speed queen. There is a small niche of customers that is going to wash king size comforters in a top load washer. They should be washed in the front load washer. There isn’t a top load washer on the market that can handle a king size comforter. The speed queen can easily wash, queen size blanket, I have washed a queen size comforter in my speed queen, not the bulky ones, but a regular one. So to wait for the large capacity speed queen is really silly.

I take my comforter to the laundry mat and use a front load once a year or so. I have a working Kenmore 80 washer & dryer from 1985. The washer is starting to make a hard snapping/clunking noise after the spin cycle. I was looking at the Speed Queen, but now I think I'll tear the Kenmore apart to see what is making the noise and fix it myself. The Kenmore 80 says it is heavy duty/high capacity. I'm not sure what the actual capacity is. The lid doesn't lock. I've never used a washer with a locking lid. My Kenmore Elite French door fridge from 2000 went out a couple years ago, but I replaced the start capacitor, relay, and an evaporator coil fan, and it hasn't given me any more problems. It may last another 20 years.

Slight problem with this reasoning.... Governments seem to mandate that washers with larger tubs, are not allowed to be filling to the rim. We see this on all those washers that say 4.4, 5, 6 cu ft, etc. There are various demos on KZbin, where people rigged the lid lock so that you can see the washing action. And all those ones above 4.0 cu ft, they all use a partial water load. 1/2 or like 2/3 max, never more. Those machines don't submerge the clothes, but the clothes partially stick above the water. Do we really want a machine like that? Might compromising by sticking with the below 4.0 cu ft ones, provide a better wash? I think so ! And for those (very) odd times where one must actually wash a king size comforter, which happens how often again? - one could take it to the dry-cleaners. Not laundromat, but dry cleaners. So I don't know if size is all such a problem here. Again, look at all the videos of large washers. It's very questionable how well they clean !!!

Just scheduled my 2nd repair on a 5-year-old LG washer. That may not sound like much, but two $300 repairs on a $600 washer is where I'm at. For me it's not so much the money, as much as the HASSLE of having to chase down repair people, schedule, negotiate, haggle, wait for the work to be done, AND play money. Also during that time my family of 5 cannot wash their laundry. I am becoming a huge _Speed Queen_ fan right quick. 😁 As for the laundromat thing, I'm not concerned as much about "other people's water"; I'd just use an extra cupful of *Lysol Laundry Sanitizer* . But for me, the time and complexity hassle of driving to the laundromat, paying, waiting, and carrying the laundry back would drive me bonkers. NEVER BUY LG OR SAMSUNG APPLIANCES. Sure, they look real nice. And they work (for the first 12-18 months). But after that it's headaches and interruptions! If you have LG kitchen and laundry appliances, and other stuff, and, say, a Tesla car, you will be spending a full time job just handling the breakdowns. Chasing down warranties, calling and babysitting repair people, etc. Not a pleasant lifestyle! 😡

I have had a front load LG with direct drive for about 8 years. Not one issue. Got it about 8 years ago from big box store. It's been outstanding. After watching a lot of washer videos..I have learned that Front loaders are the best lasting normally ..because it does not need to move clothes up and down or from side to side(no agitator etc needed).....and since virtually all new washers comply with federal water saving measures, Top loaders often have a lack of proper water filling/ clothes cleaning challenges. Just my experiences and I suspect you are having issues with a Top loader? All the above said...yes for the cost of two or three pretty good washing machines, one can purchase one Speed Queen commercial washer and so its a personal choice for all to make.

The ONLY place/time a 3.2 cu. ft capacity is an issue, is in the showroom or advertisements. 😅 I just bought a new washer the other day. I started doing so serious homework. I saw 4.5, 4.7, & even FIVE cubic feet! I got really worried since my Maytag Atlantis had just coughed up a transmission after TWENTY THREE years and the part was unobtainable and would have been the price of a brand new "bells & whistles" machine ($650+). I was determined to go big and buy a Speed Queen TR5 or TR7 since there is absolutely nothing better, but again, was concerned about whether we could live with a 3.2 cu/ft tub. I looked up the old specs on my dinosaur-aged Maytag. Guess what? We'd been living happily and just fine with no complaints for 23 years with a 3.2 cu/ft tub all along. I ran down to the independent shop I bought my first used washer/dryer set from 40 years ago, when I finished college. I later bought the Atlantis from them. This time, I settled on the TR7 after a 30 minute conversation with their head technician that works in the field. I'm going back soon to scoop a DR7 Dryer even though our old timer is still churning but getting tired. Again, 3.2 only matters to the sales reps at the big box stores! 😅

Agree 3.2 tubs will work just fine for most folks. Maytag Atlantis and Performa series were Maytags attempt to offer a budget washer to complement their more expensive traditional line. When Maytag bought Magic Chef they got the "Norge" designed washer platform. A pretty good budget series, except for the transmission and tub seal. A Shorter life compared to the more robust traditional Maytag and Speed Queen transmissions.

Tub size is a faulty measurement because it can't be compared between technologies. Front-loaders operate by lifting the laundry out of the water and flinging it back in. Therefore, they require the most tub volume for a given load. The TR series allows you to cram in more load per tub size than old-fashioned top-loaders/TC series because the agitator doesn't move relative to the tub and you don't have the risk of it tearing up your queen size comforter (even though cleaning may not be very good when you do that).

Narrator is over thinking capacity issue. The new TR models have the agitator attached to the drum so they move together, thus NOT grinding fabric of bulky items. So capacity is only a problem with the old CLASSIC models (which are still available and unbeatable for very dirty, greasy clothes, like what construction workers or mechanics bring home).

My Maytag commercial technology washer has been the worst machine I've ever bought. Model MVWB765FW0 It has cost me so much in repairs that I have paid for it twice. This has the large drum, but it really doesn't wash a set of queen size sheets right. They come out a twisted mess. Don't make me laugh about putting a comforter in, because that would be asking for the Maytag to finally fall apart. The huge drum is for light loads only! About the Maytag dryer, more junk. It has been worked on twice. And, the lint screen is the worst mess! The pair was bought new in 2017 I feel sorry for anybody who buys Maytag. Every time I use this washer, I know it could quit on me for the last time. I would feel guilty to give this equipment away. Experience tells me I have two choices, SPEED QUEEN, or else the cheapest set I can find. There is no middle ground.

Well... Most of those LG and Samsung top load washers with those big capacities only fill up the tub halfway with water anyway, so even though they'll fit a king size comforter, they can't wash or rinse them effectively without the water. If you'll be washing a lot of king size comforters, play it safe, and just buy a big capacity front loader.

More water doesn’t necessarily clean better than less water. Detergent cleans textiles. Dirty water is removed in the spin cycle. In any type of machine, cleaning effectiveness is influenced by the optimal combination of pretreating stains, detergent (type & amount), wash & rinse cycles, spin cycle speed to extract the wash & rinse water.

We are looking to buy one, we have bought 3 GE 4.5 cubic ft. washer in the last 6 years. Even with Costco warranty the service is not there. It is a hassle. We just want something that works and stays working. The only problem we have with Speed Queen is the size. We are going to wait and see if they role out something larger.

Maytag exists only in name, which is owned by Whirlpool. Maytags of today have absolutely nothing to do with Maytags of yore. I love Speed Queen top loaders and have owned that brand since 1988. My current SQ washer was purchased in 2007 and is still going strong. It even has the warm rinse option, which is great for wool and cotton.

We bought a speedqueen less than a month and a half ago in Amite, La. It worked fantastic at first but now it stops during the wash (with water still inside) and two lights blink on the controls. The only way to reset it is to unplug it and it may do it again or complete the cycle.

I cant even fit my queen sized comforter in my 2017 Speed Queen 8 series, i have to take it to the laundromat to wash it in a big capacity front loader and that's not a Speed Queen because they don't make a large capacity front load washer. They are tiny compared to some of the most basic offerings from other manufacturers. I bet they lose a lot of sales from people who would spend Speed Queen money for a front loader but don't because they are just too small.

I was a new home owner (2001) and purchased a Whirlpool Duet and the washer belt went just after the warranty ended. I was told I would be better off purchasing a new washer instead of repairing it. I purchased the exact same SQ you haven the video over 10 yrs ago. Right after the warranty ended I had to get a repair done. I was furious because I just went through the issue with the Whirlpool!! I contacted SQ and I was told they could not help me, terrible customer service and now I was extremely furious!!!! Now I had to locate an outside repair shop and fortunately they took care of the problem. Recently, the belt broke and I had that repaired. So, for the most part, still, I would recommend a SQ. Although some minor issues with it, it has gone through a family of five and still going strong. The Whirlpool Duet dry, that's still going strong.....

I replaced my top loader with an LG front loader in 2013. I’ve never regretted it for even a minute. I can wash Q size down comforters in it, down pillows, bulky bath maths, as well as wool & cashmere 😅sweaters and other gentle care textiles. On top of the increased range of laundry load types and sizes, our water consumption is much lower. I’ll never go back to a top load washer.

@edkaempf906
@edkaempf906 3 ай бұрын
But you mention only a new TR model, not a new TC model, coming out from Speed Queen. So, given that the weaker washing capabilities of the TR models will now be in a bigger tub. I won't wait on a bigger TR. Unlike the TR models, the TC5 washer has a fixed tub and a real agitator for more thorough washing. AND, you can actually fill the tub entirely on a TC5, v. only about 70% on the TR models. So, the TC5 has more aggressive wash and rinse cycles, and can use more water per load. A win-win for, you know, cleaning clothes. Now, the one cleaning advantage that the TR7 has over the other TR models and over the TC5, is that the TR7 can use warm water for the rinse cycle. All other Speed Queen washers ONLY use cold water for the rinse cycle.

@nickg9021

It is a feature that is EASILY bypassed . We have a TR7 and all it takes is a wooden clothes pin (spring type) to defeat the lid-sensor switch , and a rubber O ring folded and inserted into the hole that the lid latch fits into.( must remove the latch mechanism on the lid before closing it ... save the latch in case you want warranty service later ) . Look for a video on KZbin that shows how it's done . Allows you to open the lid mid-cycle without interrupting the progress of the cycle. Also permits adding detergent during the fill cycle and rinsing out the measuring "cap".

The only front loaders that are great are commercial models that cost $2,000 - $3,000+ If your looking to spend under $1400 there's only two washer to consider: Speed Queen TC5 and Maytag Commercial. Anyone telling you otherwise is flat out misleading you for other reasons. They aren't recommending a washer that agitates and cleans the best. Their version of 'best' has more to do with optimized, not clean. I know way to much about washer now.
