@@DaveP-uv1ml Agreed, but that's why it pays to learn. The drum starts to squeak, and you can tell by grasping and rotating it that it's bearing related. You pull out the unit from against the wall, remove the vent house, take out the dozen or so sheet metal screws with quarter inch hex heads securing the rear panel, put them in a bowl, and take off the cover. The rear bearing is right there and the center of the drum shaft is visible in the center. Verify that's where the squeak is coming from. There's two machine screws that hold the retainer to capture the outer race. Get that out of the way and you can pack automotive grease in there. Rotate the drum as you pack fully all around. Replace retainer and check for free rotation, turn on for a minute, shut it off and reassemble the cover and hose, put it back into position and voilá. Half hour task, maybe forty minutes including retrieving and putting away the nut driver, socket wrench and grease gun. Probably less time lost than scheduling an appointment, and no strangers trampling through your home. A newer one, or one that's been left to squeak for a while, may require a new bearing. Ten bucks, or maybe twenty under this administration's economy. And you likely can find a KZbin video where someone walks you through it on screen. Now if you can't afford a modest socket set and some grease then you probably aren't in a viable situation to own a home, much less pay a repairman, or purchase a new machine. So yeah, saves both time and money, teaches responsibility, and provides a sense of accomplishment. What is the downside?

@@elgringoecvery nice, i will admit as new appliance tech some of the older machines intimidate me a little bit, mostly in the way i have to figure out everything on my own and there's not really any test modes and i'm on the clock so i can't spend all day chasing ghosts and my experience is limited. The newer stuff is easier to figure out and fix sometimes, but NOT cheaper. Also 2-6 years life expectancy with a 1 year warranty is absurd. I had a chat with the SpeedQueen customer service team and I wanted to pass the information along to you. Apparently, there's been talk about making the bin on the front load larger, but unfortunately, nothing is in development yet. The representative I spoke to mentioned that it could take up to 10 years from today's date to develop a product like that, and they don't want to rush anything without proper testing and durability checks. So if you're thinking of getting one but are waiting for the bigger bin, the wait might be longer than you expect. In fact, it might be a good idea to go ahead and get one now instead of waiting for something that may not happen for years.

We didn’t know that Whirlpool bought out Maytag. We got it just before covid hit, now it’s broke down. Gonna cost a little over $900 to fix! Another piece of damned crap!!! I realize this isn't the most efficient way to get a comforter perfectly clean, but it sure beats going to some sketchy laundry mat. Yes, that works if you're careful. I used to do that with older machines with agitators BUT to avoid wear and stress on the motor AND your comforter (like the agitator rubbing repeatedly on the same spot) I'd use the gentle/delicate cycle, fill it to the top, top it off with buckets of water if necessary, only let it agitate for 5 min. Stop it and let it soak for 10 min, then open and rotate the blanket myself and punch it down, let it run for another few min, repeat, run, repeat, etc. Drain, do the same on rinse. I give it an extra spin cycle on 'spin only'. It may seem like a lot of work but saves on laundry mat costs and way easier than handwashing or wearing out the machine.

Both washers will work on the second floor. The motors are not that heavy. Tc 6 has a 3/motor tr series has a one horse power motor. Both series work very well. Don't listen to these comments about the tc series. Most of them don't own one,ther just following the crowd.

So basically in order to get a speedqueen with load water size selection the only option is to buy a commercial unit?
@straightpipediesel8 ай бұрын
No, the opposite. Only consumer washers have water level size. TR washers have the option for either auto or at least 2 manual levels. TC washers are either auto or full. Commercial washers do not have a water level selector, they are either always full or for coin-op, program-dependent.

It's quite obvious when you have a washer with a circuit board and when you have one with a clockwork timer. The feel is totally different. Not really any clicks there are on a PCB(printed circuit board) operated machine and the dials don't move by themselves. Totally the opposite with clockwork timers. Miele were the Speed Queen of washing machines once and as far back as the late 80's they were using circuit boards. But back then they didn't make the boards cheaply, Miele made NOTHING cheaply. There are many a Miele's from the 90's and earlier that function just like they do when they were new...

You shouldn't equate the government's regulations with the actual ability of the washer. Yes, there is the "ECO" mode, but I replaced my Bosch 500 vision series (which in all fairness, was bought in 2010 and lasted 13 years) with this washer and dryer combo and it is just like being at many of the hotels I have to live in on the road - it does one thing and does it really well. Just touch the overfill button and it's like a washer out of the 70's/80's. I can easily see this washer and dryer lasting longer than I will at this point and I'm 52.
@J.W.W.13 күн бұрын
3.5 drum size is too small on the current models. I had to go with another brand at 5.3 and I’m loving the capacity. And yes, my king size comforter was no issue with the 5.3 (my previous washer was 4.0, also too small!)
@paulc.805810 ай бұрын
There are no residential washers that will actually clean a king size comforter. If you fill the tub with all that fabric and have to push it in to get it to fit there's no room for water to actually clean also the comforter won't move because it's crammed in there.

My TC5 died in 10 months with only 1 -2 loads a week. Smelled and sounded like a belt and/or a bearing went already and leaking out bottom. Like everthing now, garbage products at premium prices. Seems like SQ is resting on their prior reputation. Hopefully my authorized dealer will make it right if they ever get here. Two weeks out just to look at it. I thought this would last years without any problems.

Your post is 2 months old. How did you come out on this?

Got our SQ TC5 and matching SQ dryer recently after our "American" brand Maytag drove us crazy with the violent jumping around on spin cycle. Plus, it took almost an hour on the shortest cycle and never really cleaned the clothing that well. This time, we paid way up for the SQ. So far, it's been amazing. It's all done in 30 minutes, has a REAL agitator, we can open it at any point and after shutting the lid, doesn't need to start over or reprogram the computer, either. So SQ invites me to "review" the purchase. In their advertisements, they proclaim that they are made in America-Wisconsin. I know that many of the other, so called "American" washers and dryers are actually made in China. In my review, I point that out...that Speed Queen is made in America, by Americans, providing American jobs instead of China.......Speed Queen censored it. When I questioned them, they say that it's a "3rd party" that "moderates" the reviews. Cowards...and hypocrites. They seem ok to shout: Made in America! but if someone mentions the actual OTHER country that many of them are made, well that's just got to be censored. Love the machine, hate the politically correct bullshit

Your points about resource stewardship are valid. I live in CA, and I’m unhappy my development relies on river water (which is already depleted). But with my current washer, I have to do extra rinses, which doesn’t save water in the long run. 😩

I have a Kenmore that’s 5 years old, it has a similar set up and government “eco” crap throughout the programming. It does have one single setting called deep wash, which adds more than normal water to the wash basin. Supposed to be used if you have particularly dirty clothes, but I literally use it on everything, because if I don’t, the clothes don’t come out clean and I have to wash them twice 😡… This is literally the exact same problem they have done to toilets, making the tanks smaller and smaller, which forces the user to flush more than once after doing #2, hence actually using more water than if they’ve had an older toilet with a bigger tank. Government needs to leave our appliances alone and spend their time and energy trying to solve real problems!

I found a used SQ commercial coin op front load washer that runs on 110v. It works well. Guy wants 900 plus 150 for the base. We have a dog rescue, so lots of really dirty loads with dog beds, blankets and towels. Need front loader and can do 110 or 220, but not 3 phase. Is this a good machine for us? Trying to find out model number, but there is a language barrier.
@edkaempf9068 ай бұрын
I really agree with your viewpoint on what the government has done to clothes washers. Great job! I'm not telling you anything new, but the TC5, with its more aggressive, independent-from-the-tub agitator, and its ability to, you know, fill the tub up entirely, is so much better at cleaning clothes and rinsing away the detergent than the weaker TR models with their moving-water-around-gently approach, using not enough water, to clean clothes. The government forced SQ into those TR models that theoretically use less water and energy . . . . . . until you have to run the load again to get them clean the detergent rinsed away. The TC5's only drawback is that it only uses cold water during the RINSE cycle. Of all SQ top loading washers, only the TR7 model can use warm water for the rinse cycle. But IMHO, that one advantage is not a good enough reason to purchase the TR7 rather than the TC5. The TC5 has: 1. No Lid Lock like the TRs, so you can open it after the wash starts 2. A 5-year parts and labor warranty 3. A 15-year warranty on the transmission 4. A lifetime warranty on both the inner and outer drums.

@joseymour25749 ай бұрын
As two repairmen I over heard said while chuckling: "the best front loader I can recommend is a top loader". Front loaders are just for show and suckers. Laundromats use them because of less wear that an agitator will create from people over loading and abusing the machines. Not because they clean better.

Sorry, but you are mistaken in your assessment of the capacity of the SQ. Most all other brands don't fill the drum to capacity, in turn can't wash king sized comforters or use the space to its fullest. The SQ does fill completely which enables the unit to wash full loads including king comforters. You should know better and not make statements that are factually incorrect.

Little odd the unit/brand chosen to do a mini rant about government-control-eco-nonsense was the Speed Queen lineup. Did a lot of research before getting mine and they seem to be a big proponent of bringing back the days when a washer and dryer would literally last 20+ years. That doesn't merit a bash simply because they have an eco setting in my opinion.

What's the link with computers and governments? The only thing some govermenet (eg. Europe) are asking are low water and energy consumption. Manufacturers do whatever they want from that. Even then. Nothing force manufacturers to sell that kind of appliance everywhere. They do that because it's cheaper to have models as standard as possible with the minimum of difference from one market to another.
@interestingtimes62424 ай бұрын
There are places that will repair the top computer board on that machine if it goes out for $50 to $75. This is probably less than the mechanical parts you will need to replace over time on a machine without the computer. The lower computer board is a motor controller, which reduces your electric bill. Without it you ARE paying more to run this machine. Some people just want to whine about things they don’t understand. That TC5 is an awesome machine and can last over 25 years.
