There is not a lot of demand for quality pitcher pumps these days. But for those of us looking to bring in our own water rather than pay for fluoridated and chlorinated water provided by local utilities, it becomes an area of renewed focus.

If you have friends that still use the first pump tell them to grind a groove across the under side of the spout (from side to side), this will stop most of the problem you stated.

Yes...that is the same theory of having that groove on the underside of the exterior window sill...it stops the water from draining back and causing a mess or damage. Jesus bless.

I live near Lehmans and I visit the store often, they are a great source of information since they deal with the Amish and their needs everyday. They have a wonderful kitchen department!

This is probably the Cadillac of shallow well hand pumps because it can force water above the pump to a gravity tank in the attic or second floor. You can pump to fill the tank periodically, and store water up high. All you have to do most of the time is open the tap and you have running water coming down from your tank.

I have a pitcher pump that came with a rubber flapper and piston ring. I was able to replace them both with leather.

we have a pump set up like you first had. but as we are putting our point in for our well this year(we are getting water from the spring 2 miles away). cant wait to get a pump set up in the house. we are 2 years this month in our off grid life. i will look into this pump for when we get water set up to our camp. thanks for sharing Jaime

Once you go off grid you can still pressurize the water. If you have a windmill you can lift the water to an elevated tank. If you have solar with battery pack you can use an electric pump. Either will allow you to use the faucets more conducive to kitchen operations.

What about using a small electric pump that can run off solar and slowly pump water up to a storage tank (on the roof or elevated) so that you have water pressure and on demand water without pumping? Plus you would still have the regular kitchen pump if necessary.

Elevated tanks need to be insulated or heating to prevent freezing in many areas. Places like NYC use the steam pipes that heat the city to keep the roof top tanks from freezing. To get an elevated tank without the need to heat or insulate it you need to put it into a hill higher then the home location to let the soil be both insulation and heating. Then again that can get insane as you need around 75-80 feet of drop just to get 35psi at the tap due to resistance and bends.

Auto mechanics should be designing cars and truck mechanics should be designing trucks and like you said this pump was designed b someone that used a pump before and knew exactly how to design it. Worth the money in the long run, you bet.

David Smith I agree with you 100%... except I've learned that modern mechanics or engineers (strictly designing) will purposely design vehicles that don't last or only so long (parts wise). Also making them harder to work on attempting to go more proprietary. This is what they consider modern ingenuity. Sad, I say. Not like the old US where things seemed to last forever. 😕

Tell us where you get your main water supply from,how do you get water to the pump straight over the kitchen sink,I've always wondered how people got the water pumps directly over the sink,did they dig a well first then build around the well or what,those houses are mostly gone now l,this wad common when there was no electric.

Thank you for talking about this pump, I've been looking at Lehmans and Bison pumps because although we have an electric pump I want a hand pump for emergency access to our well. Something I think all well installations should come with IMO! We have an outside well head that I can build a pump mount over and I hope to get one of these pumps In The next few months.

you do realize you could have moved that pump back a couple inches from the sink and piped the nozzle down through the counter and around to feed a ordinary sink type faucet and feed both sink basins.

Wow ok you know you could have tied a string around the first pitcher pump around the spout and left a tail pice hanging down into the sink when you would pump the water and a little bit would run back along the bottom side of the spout it would hit the string and because of surface tension run down the little tail piece of string and into the sink

Farm Alarm She explained that it's for priming, if needed, instead of having to prime near top of pump cylinder. Makes it all easier with less possible damage at the pump cylinder (where lever shafts attaches)

MISTY AND BRENT OFF THE GRID LIVING I would say no, because the city water is essentially already being pumped for you. The city/county/on grid water is pressurized, which is why you turn the spigot on, the water just runs out.
