Don't Buy The Wrong Optic For Your Rifle

Don't get the wrong optic for your needs and chosen environment. There are so many great optics out there in the market today from red dots to full power optics in just about every price point. Many buy stuff on a default status for one reason or another not taking the time to really think about what the rifle is going to be used for, specifically what distance. We get questions all the time about this and figured it would be best to just do a video covering the baseline of why.

I didnt know if i had an astigmastism after visiting a trade show and trying out differnent dots, I kinda figured i had 😂. At the same time i tried some prism scopes for the first time, and that was right away a very clear difference. After that i got the Primary Arms 1x Microprism, a very great little prism scope. Dont have to use illumination but the option is there which is nice (and it can get really bright), And no issue for my eyes keeping a clear reticle what so ever, plus they are not super expensive which is nice also. Tried out a cheap magnifier (clone) and even that worked great. So i am gonna match it with a Primary Arms micro magnifier end of the year.

I spent a ton on my Cobalt Kinetics 6.5 Grendel with the fiber optic barrel to the Vortex 1-10 HD glass, to the ACRO P2 off set red dot to ceracoating the rifle and dura mags, ammunition, Ranger wrapping the optics, and adding a bipod. The only thing left is to find an effective silencer that won’t have me scrapping trees when carrying through the woods.

For my 12 inch AR, i am super happy with my Primary Arms 1x Microprism and tried out a little using a cheap magnifier with it. Will be getting a matching Primary Arms 3x micro magnifier for it, for me shooting distances here in my part of Europe are well under 300M. So it makes the most sense set up wise for me and gives me a great general purpose rifle for doing some competitions and or more tactical training. And of course to just have fun with 😁, while keeping it as simple and lightweight as needed.

I run the March FX 1.5-15x42. 0-1000y capable. 1.5x is good enough for CQB. 15x is good enough for PID out to 500y (if the weather allows). Dual Focal Plane, so best of both worlds. simple crosshair and center dot at 1x with a usable grid at 8-15x. Weight is lighter than some LPVOs (like 1-8 credo). Length is shorter than some LPVOs (like 1-8 credo). Adjustable parallax. Best in class eyebox and light transmission when compared to any LPVO at their max magnification (6x, 8x, 10x). There are plenty of cons and the price is hard to swallow, but like you, I want to max performance I can get and there is nothing better in its class. Bonus points is I run it on an LMT MRP, so anything that can be chambered in an AR15 (22lr, 9mm, 556, 6arc, 50bw, etc), is only a 45-90 seconds away with a simple torque wrench.

Love your videos. Love your presentations. Where you been lately? LPVO - Heavy, strict eye box, fragile. Extreme scenario, but will you have time to adjust back to 1X? Better to use a fixed power scope if you must. Lighter, more robust. Perhaps an even better solution is a magnified prism and an RDS. Lighter, less fragile. The Prism mounted offset, RDS at 12:00. Distance is time. If you need the RDS, it should be placed in the most familiar position IMO. I'm a T1/T2 fanboy. However, I've recently mounted a 1X Prism with a 3X magnifier behind it on one of my AR-10s. Lighter, excellent eye box, rugged. The Prism gives me etchings for hold-overs (sorta), better than just a dot. Will never run an open emitter RDS. With a holstered pistol, the RDS is sitting cup up. Same same with a rifle being carried muzzle down.
