I have the "Platinum" version of this case, which I love. It's my favorite case! I've really never felt the horn wasn't protected. I've flown with it (overhead bin) on multiple occasions with no issues. Yes, some stitching wears over time but I've taken it to a cobbler and they've (inexpensively) done fixes on them.

I've been using a protec for my Bach Soloist for a little bit, it didn't crunch the bell but it did depress the trigger when I stored it in there. Everytime I took it out I was always confused as to why my trigger acted weird, and now I know why. I'd much rather use the heavier bag that it came with now.

Looks very much like the horn I just built for myself (I run a shop in Ohio,) same valve and slide assembly, Bach af3 with Olsen infinities and a shires 2 leadpipe fitted to a Bach lightweight slide and a 10.5 inch tr181 bell. Thanks for the review, my finger was hovering over the eBay listing before I saw your video.

I have a protec elite bag for tenor and used it daily for a few years. There is wood in the lining of the spot in front of the bell, so never had it crunched, even with a thin annealed bell. That being said, the slide compartment seemed bound to problems with the amount of stress it put in the slide.

Oh, thanks. I was thinking about buying that case so I was finding any comments about that one. But now that I've heard your opinion, I'm thinking about it again.

I use the tenor version for work everyday, and of course I'm careful with my stuff, but it's been tossed around a little bit and I haven't gotten any damage at this point. I keep it upright most of the time too. Maybe just the bass version is cursed? I wouldn't trust a bass in a gig bag anyway because of how it depresses the triggers.

I've had a trumpet/flugel case by the same brand which I've used very regularly , although not at full capacity since it is enormous which has served me perfectly well for the past half year or so. Real shame about those trombone bells though...

Protec is still a fine brand, it's these gig bags that are bad.

Upon a rewatch of this video, that bag is the old design (gold series?) The new kind is O style, like the Gard bags/Reunion Blues/what have you. Perhaps they have ironed out the kinks in the new explorer design in the past few years.

May I suggest a different / better case for bass trombone, by Protec: IP309CT. It's their latest&greatest, less clunky then the earlier models. Its a case, with straps/backpack straps aswell. It has a large side compartiment for a4 sheetmusic etc. Another sell8ng point is the price, wich is half of what you pay for Bonna. I have both the Protec / Bonna, happy customer. Thanks for the videos, keep 'm comin' 👊

Yes, I have owned several protecs. They are OK but I personally like either a higher quality, lighter case or a good gig bag.

I have two pro-tec hard cases and they’re actually pretty nice. A little heavy and a tad bit wider than something like a bonna, but very nice and protective. Sucks the gig bag is trash though, pro-tec cases and nice and cheap.

Interesting, it seems the one you showed is the “deluxe” version and is around $125. I could only find it one place. The $90 one is the “explorer” version and has a music pocket rather than a long accessory pocket. The “platinum” of course seems to be a different story as well

Get a TANK case if you can find one, it will never get destroyed - stronger than a Bach Bass case. I still use old Bach 90s case for my 42T. Not sexy at all but my horn is perfect. Never trusted gig bags , ever.
