The Goldback fan bois have entered the chat. Folks, I understand the purpose of goldbacks. The problem is, goldbacks aren't accepted in the majority of states. For those living outside one of these states, it would appear they can't use them for their intended purpose. If folks can't use them for their intended purpose and they want to sell them, they will take a huge loss unless they find someone to trade with. That is the only point I'm making. Don't tie your self worth to an inanimate object; it doesn't end well.

One of the most weird beliefs among the PM buyers is that they think buyers should build good relationships with coin shops by keeping buying frequently in hope for better deals from the shop. I always think that's stupid and it should be the other way around. If the LCS has a good attitude toward new customers and sells with the best prices they have, I'm sure customers automatically come to their business.
@CampbellsCoins Жыл бұрын
Agree. The scenario you mention though isn't what's being discussed. You build a relationship with a shop that treats you well. Not beg for good deals while they treat you like crap.

What people are avoiding saying is that some LCS rip off their customers. They are more likely to do this to people they think are only going to come in once and never deal with them again. Such as someone they think may have inherited silver or gold and wants to sell it. If you are a familiar face, they might refrain from some of their shady practices. I'll give you an example. I bought a Gold Maple at a reasonable price and years later when the price went up, I went back to the same shop to sell it. He looked at it under a magnifier and claimed there were scratches on the coin. I handled the coin but was gentle with it. He said he could offer a few percent less than spot, but then looked at the sleeve the coin was in and noticed his own store's logo on it and realized I bought this very coin from his store. He had a miraculous change of heart and offered a more reasonable price. Aside from this firsthand experience relating to having a relationship with their LCS, I also stopped buying 24k gold because it is so soft and opens you up to the excuse of "scratches" on the coin. I began buying Krugerrands(22k gold) which are harder. When selling those I've managed to evade further shenanigans from coin dealers.

No I always treat the returning customer better because I appreciate the loyalty. Your gas stations, grocery store do the same thing. Only difference is we don't do coupons and customer clubs. I would pay a client more money for silver or gold than someone who walks in with stuff they bought everywhere else. I would also find things I did not want and just suggest selling it to who they bought it from.

nothing wrong with buying fractional silver or gold, you are only losing on the higher premium for fractional amounts. Now if you are stacking as protection against inflationary concerns, then fractional may turn out to be the smart play as it is easier to use as currency during a market collapse. Fractional silver bars are probably the best for this as they would tend to be better situated to use as barter pieces. I think the argument about 3x9 fine vs 4 x9 fine is a really tedious one because it won't mean a damn thing in the grand scheme.

There is a shop about 30 mins away that is excellent, but by the time I spend the gas and time, any deal I get is basically a wash or worse. Here’s the deal with the “misconception” about buying from exchange and then selling to coin shop. There is a greater sense of “security” (right or wrong). Mentally, you feel like you are less likely to get FAKE bullion (due to regulation that the online dealers are subject to). With an LCS, there is a certain etiquette to where you don’t want to ask the dealer to verify the bullion is genuine in your presence. So you have to be okay with not checking everything until you get home. If at that point and rare chance something isn’t right (let’s just say it was the ONE time a dealer didn’t do a COMPLETE check with say Metalytics and something slipped through), you now have an awkward situation, where you have left their store with possibly thousands of dollars in product and you have to get resolved. Will the LCS accuse you of trying to “get one over” on them and future relationship becomes strained? Just my perspective on possible reasons why.

Goldbacks can be tested in an xrf device but only a few larger coin shops have them. Trying to recover the gold with an uncontrolled flame like a blow torch simply vaporizes the gold. You have to use a temperature-controlled kiln if you wanted to recover the gold that way, but why would you. You lose all of the utility value of hyper fractionalized gold when you do that. A fool's errand. There have been no reports of deficiencies of properly assayed GBs or any counterfeits. That can't be said of coins or bars.

What are your thoughts about foreign gold like 100 Corona (0.9802 oz) and 20 Franc Roosters (0.1867 oz) and similar coins for low premiums and fractional coins?

Great if you like it. Not the most popular here in the US, so it has a low premium and a low buy back price. I think you emailed me and I will add it to the list of questions for part 3.

I feel like people will get a lower payout for 999 in the future, being told the refining process has to separate the silver or copper from the gold. We gotta remember too, that cutting gold and silver was a tactic used by governments to keep the PURE metal for themselves. It may be just my paranoia, but to me the purer the better. That goes for anything. Would you want pure coke or coke that's been cut?.....

Would love to see a part 3, great job as always! My question would be what does he think about foreign gold like Britannias ? I saw one in the thumbnail for the video and wonder his thoughts on Britannias specifically the Britannia fractionals like the quarter oz, they're so much less then Eagles and while they're foreign I mean whose not familiar with the British, they conquered most of the world at one time or another seems their gold above pretty recognizable?

In New Zealand, I would doubt any investor would purchase any gold, that is less than 999 gold, as you have to pay GST, on the buy, as it is not classed as fine gold.
@bobandmaryw4336 Жыл бұрын
Customers are given the stink eye when you go in to sell after they bought from you and paid your premium to keep your shop going. Think about it. It runs both ways. Customer paid 300 or 350 for a 1/10 and you go back in to sell and they wanna pay you melt. Come on, you know that’s what is done. You’d think the shop owner would be nicer about what they are doing. They don’t pay spot plus anything to the customer. It’s sad. Silver is only paid back melt. It doesn’t really matter what you bring in. This has been the case even back in the 70’s till this very day. I have a good LCS now so, for me personally that’s changed. Stackers can be left feeling ripped off. I think finding a good LCS can really be a game changer for a new stacker.

People buy online for 1 reason. It's cheaper! And especially for bullion where the spread is huge compared to stocks, the price you pay is critical for investment returns!

Thanks for the information as a beginner collector. I have one question though, what is your opinion on ancient historical coins, like a Roman gold coin. Do you think they are good investments compared to normal bullion? I know the premiums are insane but a lot of people do it

They're passion pieces. You'd be better off stacking current metals

Completely agree with AA assessment. If you like them, get some but don't go too heavy. Still to current metals. Ancient coins are super niche and it's hard to find people who are interested in them.

I appreciate the interview. I question some of what the man said and his motives. For instance, in the last episode, he derided the online dealers for issuing 1099s but failed to mention that everyone has to report to the IRS for quantities that exceed the minimum (ie 25 ozt Krugerrands in a 24 hour period) Plus he left out that JM Bullion automatically insures your Bullion when you mail it to them if you use their shipping label. Keep up the great work Campbell.
@CampbellsCoins Жыл бұрын
Hi Jeremiah. Thanks for the kind words! I wouldn't look into it that much. Sometimes in an interview, especially when it's being recorded, one forgets to mention specific points and sometimes things have to keep to the point of the conversation so the video doesn't go on forever. The IRS reporting is only for specific items and amounts, gold eagles for example, don't get reported. I didn't take the conversation in that direction because it didn't pertain to my question and I've covered IRS reporting in previous videos. Thanks for the info on the JM Bullion insurance! I didn't know that because I don't use them, and it's possible he didn't know either. The only thing he spoke to was the time before you receive your funds. I was the one who brought up the shipping theft possibility, erroneously it appears. Thanks for watching!

@Campbell's Coins I understand your point. I also appreciate your timely response and honest rebuttal. I have to say that I am amongst your viewers who subscribe to the fractional is better theory. The reasons are many, not the least of which because I can scratch the gold itch more times a month when I purchase tenths and quarter ounces. Thanks again for the great content and, as always, forever endeavor.

I like rounds and bars 999 pure or better, I don't want to pay high premiums for gold with other stuff mixed in it. My friends wife has nothing except American eagles, she won't even look at anything else, she doesn't want to know how much more I have for the same amount of money..🤔 I don't understand why you stack high premium metal..

I would prefer an LCS, if I could find one to get acquainted with. Haven't had much luck in the Houston TX area so if anyone has a referral I'd appreciate it. As of last year or so I've bought all my bullion and coins online because of deals, something else I haven't found out of LCSs but I'd still spend money there if I got to know them and we trusted each other. A good deal is what we all always look for, money talks, it's the way of business, personal and professional.
