We've been more selective when thrifting. After going through our profits in 2021, we were buying too many low margin items. Thank you for mentioning time to find the item + gas you spend. A lot of people forget to include that!

I appreciate this video so much! As a part time reseller, I have to go after work and I am finding that the market is so flooded with resellers now, that I think most all the "good" stuff is gone before I get there at 4:00. So I have been reduced to only low end items and it is not been good lately. Knowing what NOT to buy helps a ton! Thanks! Keep up the great work!

One of your best vlogs! Sourcing and reselling in a nutshell. You are one of the few that always takes us thrifting. As to why you pick not pick up the item while you guys are in the thrift store. You bounce off what you guys think of the item. Greet video. 💕

Along the lines of VHS tapes is to always be on the look out for the Head Cleaners. I have done really well with those usually picking them up for under $1 and they typically go for $20-$25 and sell VERY fast and cheap to ship.

Allot of popular KZbin resellers make videos picking up allot of bad items and overpaying for low sell through items. I think they make these videos for content. It’s refreshing to hear you talk about things not to buy! Keep up the good work Ryan

100% you’re right on the money there. Pun intended 😉

My general rule is 5X the money plus shipping with the realization that I may have to sell it at 3X the money shipped. If there is no profit at that lower number I will pass. The closer I get to the lower number the higher the sell through rate needs to be.

This great advice. Very similar to what I do. I love flea markets I always find $1-3 items that would be 8-10 at Goodwill but sell these $1-3 items for 30-50 bucks. I'm breaking off into hand tools more. That's what's available in my area. Finding items that are always available in your area is great.

I have bought and sold since I could walk, probably why I retired at 40 over 15 years ago . People pick what they are comfortable with at first and slowly expand by watching what others are actually selling. Trends are ok but they don't last, so you must be prepared for the sudden shift... picking new things should feel comfortable , not forced or suggested by just anyone. ⚡👁️

awesome tips Ryan! Ive had amazing luck with mugs, surprisingly tho my starbucks ones have taken longer to sell, but I still pick 'em up. Disney has been amazing pickups for me, I sold a cinderella mug this week for $30 :))) And I also came to learn that Anthropologie mugs designed by certain artists have high value, sold one last year for $50!

when I go into Goodwill I always carry my own giant carrying bag on me. I do this because a shopping cart makes it difficult to maneuver and go through the lanes. I can carry a lot in giant bag. Also it makes it easier for me to throw the first item that I can make money into it. Because before I would go into Goodwill and see one Item and not be motivated to grab it because I had no bag then I would walk out missing good deals if I just focused on the store.

Just a heads up. In my area Washington state, we are now putting out new items through out the day, not just in the morning, or closing times. We (me being a manager at a goodwill) found that if we put things out through out the day, it gets people in a few times a day. I have one guy who shows up before opening. Comes back around 1pm, and again at 6pm. We get so much product at my store we have to keep it going out on floor, so not to have to send out to warehouse to go to other stores.

I am in Kansas City. Our stores put items out closer to 11 and then every two hours after that. We have 5 or 6 stores. Each has a different style of merchandise depending on the area area. One storw may have older vintage and antique items where another will have high-end clothing and household goods. Each has a different schedule for putting out new merchandise. You are correct in saying know your stores, learn them, and then set your course accordingly.

I live in Canada. the area is not heavily populated so it is a long drive to even one Goodwill, as of Jan 1st, they have more than doubled the prices on shoes and every other item has been pumped up about 30%, so I have to become more creative about where to find items. There are no garage sales because we have 2 feet of snow currently...lol. I did find online auctions within an hour drive for picks ups after I buy. Facebook Marketplace is also something I have started to buy through. Our postage fees here are easily double the cost of USPS so it is difficult to buy an item and list it on eBay in a way to make a profit but I keep trying. Ryan, you said to keep an open mind about what you might sell successfully, I think in today's market, that is the best advice, thank you!

I love it that you tell us why you did not buy certain items. I learn. I also have common sense and stopped watching another channel where the husband and wife bought shoes that have flaws, like loose soles. They also have not figured out that they work harder for less money because they do not concentrate on profit percentages. They would have bought those jeans and been happy with a $10 profit.

Now I'm in any category that can make money. Nothing against other KZbinrs but some out there are telling new people to start in 1 lane and stay in it. But in the end there's gonna be days you find nothing. Keep up the good work.
