This is hilarious. John Hamilton added a certain amount of comedy to the adventures of Superman. They were all great actors. I’m glad I grew up during the 50s I was able to watch these as they came on TV weekly.

John Hamilton (1887-1958) had more than 300 screen credits but will always be best remembered for his last role: as Daily Planet editor Perry White. Jackie Cooper tried to fill his shoes on the big screen, but just could pack into the role the same delightful bluster as John Hamilton.

I think Perry White is also cranky because he only has 3 employees to run a world class newspaper. One, Clark, is also disappointing, another, Jimmy, is also calling him Chief despite being told not too all the time. The last, Lois, is always getting in some kind of trouble to get the story. No one left to write the stories.

An editor says, "Just as good" instead of "just as well"? How many reporters work for this big city newspaper? Is it more than three?

Only once did Perry White allow Jimmy Olsen to call him chief after getting a Native American headdress because he's one of Superman's friends, who helped some Indians.

So why did Clark and Lois get to call him "chief", but Jimmy didn't?
@christopherlockery96296 жыл бұрын
Back in the 1950s younger people were expected to have a little extra respect for their elders, Jimmy calling Perry White 'Chief' would have been seen as being 'over famliar' due to the fact that he would have been under the age to see White, not quite as an equal you understand (Perry was the boss after all) but as a peer (of sorts) who would have allowed Clark and Lois (in their cases regarding the fact that they were the Daily Planet's top reporters would have help them gain favor from their employer) to call him 'Chief'. Jimmy would have had to wait a few years (and maybe get a few scoops, if he could at all) before Mr White would have allowed him to call him 'Chief' by then the 1960s would have begun to swing thus he would have covered stories of that era, or he may have joined the hippy movement by then, or maybe he would have gone to Gotham where he could have covered the explots of a certain Dynamic Duo, of which I've always considered both shows (along with the Lynda Carter Wonder Woman series) to be set in the same universe, LONG before DC did the 'Batman 66'' crossover miniseries (the cast of the 1950s show even make a camio in the last issue of the regular series). You may be thinking that I'm some kind of older person who remembers the 'good old days' of the 1950s (although I do have a fondness of some of the ethos of that and other past eras) but in fact I'm only 33! Yet I do have a great interst in older media, mostly comedy, SF, horror, fanstay and superheroes, in print, TV, film, radio or indeed most every medim , plus I've watched a fair few old drama films in my time and thus I pick up things like that.
