This raises the question: Where did Superman get his costume laundered. Yes, the fabric may be indestructible, but it would still reek after being worn many times.

Superman’s costume was not indestructible. There have been many times in the comics and in animated series where it’s gotten damaged in battle. Pretty badly most of the time.

Such a great series. And since our TV was balck & white never knew it had been in color until as an adult, though even then I think I noticed a tone change. I really wish the show had gotten a few more seasons. Maybe even could've gotten a bit more FX as they became cheaper or more understood. Or even an early Batman cameo? But really what I would've loved was a Superboy spinoff (with an actual teen, not just the short adult in that pilot I've seen pics of).

After Reeves' death there was a pilot episode of "Superboy" filmed but it was not picked up. I downloaded it years ago in RealPlayer format. May still have it on an old computer somewhere in the house.

Wish they had continued the episodes as they were written in the first season, though all episodes are great to watch. Wish they had made more episodes and that George Reeves had enjoyed a longer career- he was truly special.

The content of the episodes was toned down in the second season slightly and a great deal in the third season owing to the producers realizing that the core audience was children. Even in the mid fifties there were many that felt the content of the first season was too violent for children.
@johnnastrom94004 жыл бұрын
@@calvinhandley2373 "felt the content of the first season was too violent for children." -- Actually, there were times when I thought it was too violent for Superman. For example, in the episode that is shown at the beginning of the clip above, I believe (and I have not seen it since I was about 7 years old) Superman takes the couple holding the costume to the top of an icy mountain and leaves them stranded. When they try to escape, the get killed when they slip and fall off the edge.
@calvinhandley23734 жыл бұрын
John Nastrom that is one good example. But mainly the criminals were hardcore mobster types who frequently killed their victims. There was also a black and white episode where Superman blocks a car and it runs in to him killing the driver.

@calvinhandley23735 жыл бұрын
The show was on a low budget, and undoubtedly used existing sets. These scenes were filmed in three different seasons. The missing costume episode was first season. Panic in the Sky was a second season episode, and some say the best of the entire series. The color episode is third season or later. It's likely that the only sets that were exclusive to the show were the sets for the Daily Planet building offices.

"The Stolen Costume" is from Season 1 (1951), "Panic In The Sky" is from Season 2 (1953), and "Jimmy The Kid" from Season 4 (1955). Even though Seasons 3-6 were filmed in color, no color prints were aired until 1965. And yes, our baskets are filled with many wishes regarding this great series. Everyone always mentions this but part of Superman's powers is supposed to be like a mild Jedi mind trick kind of power. It's not the glasses that fool people, it's his powers to fool the mind. @@jimnolt-TAC The John Byrne/Marv Wolfman reboot of the comic character in 1986 was the transition point. This was when Superman became a disguise for Clark Kent, rather than the other way around. I disagree on this. Clark Kent is the person, he's still Clark as Superman but he's not hiding his powers. He's Clark in a costume. Bruce Wayne however is a shell of a person and doesn't even really know how to live honestly when he's not Batman. Batman is an obsession that became his true identity. He only presents as Bruce because he has to. Tarantino got this wrong in my opinion.

BingCherry11 As the first season was written he only had the one, presumably because the Kryptonian Blankets he was wrapped in as a baby were only enough for one suit. In the first season episode it was clear that he only had the one. In the second season episode Panic In The Sky they showed that he had spare costumes. No explanation was ever provided. TV viewers in the 1950's did not analyze every detail in the way that some do today. Getting past the problem of getting more Kryptonian fabric, one could assume that after the costume went missing the first time Clark would see the importance of having a spare. In the 1990's TV series Lois and Clark, he also had a secret compartment in his closet with several spare costumes. In that series it was explained that his mother made them for him, as in that series Ma & Pa were alive and well living in Smallville.
