man thats an insane root for a 3 leaves corn plant. And the soil was looking like a clay block but I did not expect it to be so crumbly. Clearly the cover crop did a good job at loosing it up.

Yes, cover crops good, just know tour plan and work your plan. Building organic matter is with cover crop is key to making those roots go 3 times deeper than the corn is tall. I've dug some root pits in August and gave found 50+ inch deep corn roots. Soybeans very similat and milo same also.

My only tillage program right now is to moldboard plow down in preparation for an Alfalfa seeding. After that it will of course be hay for five to seven years, corn for two or three and back to hay. No tillage until the next alfalfa seeding.

Makes sense, no till it for a few to 5+ yrs then I bet that plow does more good than we all can guess every 4-5-6 years. The greenbridge is real. I think a plown will break up compaction and definitely break the "greenbridge" better than any other tillage equipment on the market! That greenbridge is real and can really bite u in the rear if a few winters in a row, are ripe for overwinterering insects/ soil borne pathogens if u deal with any in your area. Good program. Thanks

Great video. Whats your thoughts on banding biologicals and sugars with the planter?

I apply humates and sugar broadcast with the fertility/ termination app. I'm not a big fan of banding all applied nutrients in a 1 inch band, I'm building the entire soil profile. I don't use starter in furrow when planting seed corn inbreds, I've seen it do more harm to the inbreds than good. Some inbreds are very susceptible to herbicides and any fertilizers applied directly on the seed. When planting commercial corn seed I think some infurrow humates (humisource starter) and sugar would help. Looking at my soil samples, my entire soil profile has already had "starter" fert levels. Biologicals and sugar are a great addition applied anyway, broadcast, in furrow, or banded. Tho I'm not a huge fan of banding. Overloading a 1 inch band of soil with alot of fertilizer actually harms the biology of the soil directly around the 1 inch band.

Most, not all. Dryland corners etc. You pretty much can't grow corn in SE nebraska in dryland unless your a river boat gambler! And I always win on the flop! Heh heh.
