I’m going to add some Christmas specific products eg advent calendar, Christmas cards, so I presume that’s an exception?! Do you have any advice on buyer intent keywords for actual Christmassy things?

These keywords would be ok as long as they specifically match the product in that Etsy listing - is the product actually an advent calendar? Is it actually a Christmas card? If not then it's not good SEO to use.

Great video - thanks for explaining this. I was actually thinking of doing but then thought of the work involved & couldn’t be bothered haha - makes sense what you say though. I get lots of views & clicks but they don’t all translate into orders but I know these things can take time though.

but aren't people looking for "Christmas" and that added keyword gets you closer to results in SEO... ?

When people search things like Christmas gift or stocking filler the number of results will be so many that the chances of getting shown on first few pages is so small its not worth using a space that could be used for keywords you might actually get shown for. Also when searchers for things like that it is people who don't know what they want so start with that and look at a few things then start to narrow it down so they might enter Christmas gift for mum and a page of lots of different items come up they might for example spot earrings on the page and think yes that would make a good gift but they are gold mum likes silver so then they might start searching silver earrings and get a full page of that then they might do silver hoop earrings they keep adding to search until they find what they want. So they started with Christmas in the search but what they end up buying dos not have Christmas anywhere in there finale search where they buy.

As explained in the video (and Amanda gave more examples in her reply too 😊) People who are using 'Christmas gift" or something else vague or non-specific like that aren't ready to buy so this isn't a good SEO strategy. You want to use your limited SEO space to target shoppers who are ready to buy and are using product-specific keywords.
