Like Polar the Bear said. Never spin up a fan with an airduster or something like that. Even is the electronic device is unplugged. (Always unplug stuff if you're working on it). In some cases spooling up the fan can create electricity in a way the device is not expecting it and you can fry a component. You can use an airduster to clean of the blades but keep your finger on it so the fan doesn't start spinning. A gentle brush works better tho, you can give it an airdust afterwards but... Don't let it get any rpm!

I only took apart and cleaned my son's PS5 after it started overheating. He still plays a lot of PS4 games and I noticed his PS5 only crashed when he played PS5 games. I assumed it was crashing due to overheating, and if not, I'd have to send it to Sony for repair. As a last resort before sending it in for repair, I took it apart and cleaned the fans and used a vacuum on those holes referenced in the video. It worked great. My son's PS5 no longer crashed after cleaning all of the dust out. It still surprises me that dust can be such a problem in a modern console. I cleaned his console right at one year of use. I've owned every PS console and never had one that crashed after one year due to dust until I got the PS5.

Yes I do the same thing with my consoles and PC, just cover them with some kind of cloth when not using them and just gently wipe them with wet tissues occassionally to keep the outside clean. Might sound silly but it does prevents a lot of dust from getting inside the machines. I took apart my 12 year-old X360 couple months ago to fix the CD-drive and the inside was surprisingly clean after all that time, just by doing that. For the PS5, I found and bought a cover for it online for just few bucks, gets the job done and even looks pretty nice.

I work in a secondhand laptop shop, we also do cleaning services for the insides of a laptop. I'm in sales department, but I hang out with the in-house technician a lot while working, learning what I can about laptop service and repairs, so I can help him out when repairs and service orders are backed up. I learned alot from him, the types of solutions used (strictly use electronic cleaning solution, almost instant drying), to neatly place the screws in the shape of which part and where you took it out from, so you know exactly which screw goes in which hole, to use microfibre cloth on the surface of the laptops, to always make sure no wires are tugged ever, never manually spin or blow air hard enough to spin the cooling fan. He's very detailed and he's more than happy to share what he knows and has experienced with me. I use this knowledge to clean my PS5, I dare say everything he taught me, is such a boon. Bless him.

I still find it funny how easy sony have made cleaning this thing, considering the ps4 was so difficult. I also cleaned both my ps2 and ps3, both had a similar way of doing it but the aluminium panel on the top of the ps3 original made it difficult to see the internals while the ps2 just got you straight to it, but with the ps2 you had the problem that there were seemingly two parts to it, and it was difficult to get to the bottom of it, without having to disconnect everything. I'm happy that it's become so easy with the ps5 as it is extremely user friendly, almost like a pc.

Interesting. I’ll keep this mind moving forward but I’ve never cleaned any consoles I’ve owned over the yrs (internally at least) and they all ran just fine despite the number of yrs I had them. Had my PS5 for nearly 8 months now and hardly no dust anywhere on it to speak of since I use a very light dust cover on it after very gaming session

It would be wise to not use microfiber towels or anything in that regard on the glossy part of the console. It will scratch that part over time and you may be forced to polish that out. It is the same issue with high gloss kitchensurfaces, do not use microfibres to clean those surfaces. It may go well for some time but you will see scratches sooner or later on those surfaces

Whatever you do DO NOT stick the straw from the compressed air can into the fan directly! The fast spinning( caused by air pressure) will break the fans blades if they come in contact with the plastic straw. I learned this the hard way. It’s better to hold the blades whilst blowing air into it.

I was highly skeptical of using a cleaning agent like Goo Gone on the interior of the console, since it can quickly and easily become a greasy mess, but I always keep a bottle of ROR on hand and made sure to clean it off as well as possible as soon as I finished each cycle of scrubbing on each scratch… When I was finished, I’d be lying if I said it looked 100% new, but I was impressed to find it did remove about 90% of the defects and what’s left is barely noticeable at all unless you really look. Also the Goo Gone didn’t leave too much of a shiny residue on the plastic but as I said I took great care to remove it with ROR oil remover as quickly as possible… Def took a bit of time and elbow grease and not a complete fix, but a great improvement, thanks for the guide

Actually blowing out the dust isn't a bad thing. When I did mine it blew out ALOT of dust out the back. Then I would take the fan out and vacuum out the inside. I use a feather duster to wipe the dust off the consoles. Microfiber cloth is nice but a duster works too but don’t expect it to remove all the dust off. My question is can any vacuum work for the dust catcher or specific vacuums? I have one with a nozzle but I just want to be pretty careful. Also, in case you stripped the NVME screw, I think I found screw replacements but haven’t had a need to check and see if they fit but from observation, it looks like it’d fit.
