This may not be an issue for everyone however, I’ve had my PS5 since launch and recently opened it to increase the storage. I thought whilst it was open I’d clean it as well however was surprised that there was hardly any dust. Definitely not enough to cause any issues. Doing this every 6 months is great, but in between make sure to check those vents, remove the face plates and give them a good cleaning (check the dust catchers with a vacuum as well). Depending on where you live and whether you have pets or a smoker (of any kind) in your home, you might want to give it a cleaning every 3 months or at least check it that often. That works for my situation with a couple of very hairy cats in an apartment. Also, air cans are way expensive now. Don't forget to use a vacuum to get the main stuff out before you start blowing dust through the system.

Bought a £15 cleaning and disassembly kit from Amazon, heatsinks and the 'cheese grater' radiator block behind/below the fan are definitely the cause of most overheating issues as they get clogged very quickly, especially in dusty environments, I cleaned my heatsinks a few times and still had issues, so had to reach further into my console with a toothbrush to clean the radiator block itself. Definitely worth a look if anyone is having console issues, I could have made sculptures with the amount of dust I got.

I’ve had mine since November 2020, just last weekend popped it open to put in an SSD and saw almost no dust anywhere. The console sees multiple hours of use almost every day. If your going to take it apart, might as well make it have positive air flow(meaning the fans have more intake air than out. Which pushes air out gaps instead of sucking in dust). Then filter for the intake(s). Dunno if possible, but thats more ideal. My pc virtually dust free and I haven't cleaned it in 2 years, beyond intake filters.

Edit: I guess I didn’t have a security driver version. Its ok though nothing pliers cant fix getting the other two screws out. The person I learned what driver to get didn’t say security driver but I know the difference now. I love how you can easily unscrew the fan screws. Two of mine got stripped nearly instantly. These types of screws seem so terribly designed with the little metal bit in the top middle where the driver goes so that they cant be better fitted deeper. Its like 5% of the drivers tip can fit in to the screw causing it to to keeps slipping over the edge damaging the screws.

This is why I literally hate the PS5's design because not only is it horrendously huge, heavy, and difficult to carry around, the ventilation area is completely exposed, which allows dust to seep in very easily and within short periods. I keep mine covered in a plastic bag and remove it only when I use it. Sony clearly didn't try hard enough in improving the design and just wanted to launch it immediately to keep their money flowing in.

If possible, wear electrician blue rubber gloves to prevent finger markings and damage any chipboard if you need to touch it for any reason. Don't use too much force removing/adding anything, especially screws. Doing so can cause the tension to crack the plastic. When you've accessed the fan, DO NOT MOUTH BLOW THE DUST AWAY. As it's from your mouth , your breathing will add moisture to the blow, and that ain't good!

Also as a side note from a repair tech....... from experience its a bad idea to have your console sit vertically. When the console runs to hot the cpu adhesive compound may liquefy and run down the board itself. Every single console i own runs and sits horizontally. I know some console owners who had this problem and sent it to me for repairs or had to buy another one out of pocket. Its a good idea in the long run. Also have them sit on a glass shelve rather than wood. Glass stays cooler longer and does not retain heat like a wood shelve. If you have your console staying cool with a fan stand you may wanna check it for dust 1x every 2 months cause now you have more fans helping blow air into it.
